US Government Still Installing Russian Software on Its PCs

The intelligence community is aghast, but the rest of the federal government keeping buying anti-virus tools from Moscow-based Kaspersky.

Congressional concern is climbing—not for the first time—about government agencies using an anti-virus tool made by the respected but Russia-based security firm Kaspersky Lab. The dustup is a case study in why securing government systems is devilishly complicated.

The fracas comes as congressional Democrats are squaring off against President Donald Trump over possible collusion between Russian intelligence agencies and members of his campaign. It also follows a presidential campaign upended by a Russian government influence operation and amid a deluge of leaks from U.S. intelligence agencies.

The competing priorities of security, intelligence, diplomacy and budget constraints play a role in the melee. So, too, do the rival power centers of a government that’s struggled for years, often unsuccessfully, to manage cybersecurity and technology buying in a unified way.

Parents convicted in son's death linked to alternative diet

DENDERMONDE, Belgium -- A Belgian court has convicted two parents for their part in the death of their infant, who succumbed to malnutrition and dehydration because they were firm believers in alternative diets.

The court gave both a suspended six-month sentence Wednesday because they failed to take adequate action to take care of baby Lucas, who died with organs shrunk to half their size and without any fat around them.

Britain's Independent newspaper reported, the seven-month-old baby died weighing just 9lbs after his parents fed him an alternative gluten-free, lactose-free diet.

According to local media, the parents of baby Lucas ran a natural food store in the town of Beveren in Belgium. They were attempting to raise their son on an alternative diet that included quinoa milk. Doctors had warned that such a diet is generally unsuitable for such young children.

Trump Kompromat?

snip

While we currently don’t know whether Russia actually has kompromat on the sitting President of the United States, we may be about to find out. The dossier stated that one of the main goals of Russia’s collusion with the Trump campaign was to have sanctions, which the Obama administration placed on the country, eased or possibly removed so that Russia’s energy industry could flourish once more.

Last night, however, the Senate put a dagger into the heart of any plan to ease sanctions on the Russians, and also decided to limit President Trump’s power to act on the sanctions alone. The new bill in the Senate, which passed by a staggering 97-to-2 vote, places additional sanctions on Russia related to malicious cyber activity and the supply of weapons to the Assad regime in Syria. Additionally, it would set up a congressional review process if the executive branch decided to ease or eliminate current sanctions.

Trump: 'Second Amendment' gun advocates could deal with Hillary Clinton

Wilmington, North Carolina (CNN)Donald Trump set off a fierce new controversy Tuesday with remarks about the right to bear arms that were interpreted by many as a threat of violence against Hillary Clinton.

"Hillary wants to abolish -- essentially abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, if she gets to pick, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don't know," Trump said.

He added: "But I tell you what, that will be a horrible day, if Hillary gets to put her judges in, right now we're tied."

Third Lady Melania Drops Fake Cyber Bullying Campaign She Only Pretended to Care About

After video footage surfaced of her husband bragging about sexually assaulting women, Melania Trump contributed to damage control efforts by sitting down to an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Over the course of the conversation, she defended Donald Trump as being a precocious 59-year-old boy victimized by Billy Bush and the left-wing media. In an added effort to distract, Melania pledged to tackle the epidemic that is cyberbullying. You’re familiar with cyberbullying, right? It’s exactly that thing where the man you married gets up at 3am to call people “fat pigs,” “stupid” and—irony alert!—“liars” on Twitter.

Here’s what Melania actually said while keeping a completely straight face during the interview:

My passion is the same [as I’ve said in the past]: helping children and helping women. And also, I see now in 21st century, the social media, it's very damaging for the children. We need to guide them and teach them about social media, because I see a lot of negativity on it, and we need to help them. It has some positive effects as well, because this is the life that we live in now. But has a lot of negativity as well. And I see more and more children being hurt by it...A lot of bullying.
