I was at a Walmart Neighborhood store - not by choice - Almost all Gillette

I almost laughed out loud when I went to the shaving section and of the 15 or so rows of razors and blades all but 3 were Gillette.

Just made me all warm and happy inside.

Will the Wall be the only Poision Pill in Trump's "Compromise?"

If, as suspected, Trump is going to propose a "compromise" to get the government open again, will the wall be the only heinous thing in it?

Trump's style of negotiation has always been the form where he must feel the other side has "lost" in the deal. That he's the only one better off for the deal.

Will he throw in some other nasty crap to crow about so he can feel and claim a "win" over the Democrats?

Gillibrand's Defense of Big Tobacco is far, far, worse than the Franken thing

Seriously. We need to stop focusing on her lynching of Franken so much and point out the other rather large holes in her character.

She defended Philip Morris at a time when the health risks of tobacco were already well known. When it was also well known that cigarette makers like Philip Morris manipulated the formula for cigarettes to make them more addictive. When it was well known that Philip Morris and others intentionally targeted the youth of the nation with their advertising and their promotion of their product.

She sold her soul when she defended Philip Morris and Big Tobacco. I despise her for that even more than her injustice toward Franken.

Nancy is Brilliant!

Not only does the suggestion he submit the SOTU in writing or read it from the Oval Office underscore the Trump shutdown, it would deprive the First Toddler of the pomp and circumstance he so loves.

He wouldn't get his little ego stroked by the joint session of Congress and all the focus on him, him, him he loves.

How would do we create a secular equivalent to religion?

There are many things that are good about religion. The community, charity, the fellowship, the sense of belonging. People's lack of the feeling of these things is, I believe, part of the reason we are a more selfish, self-centered, society with rampant substance abuse issues.

I believe that many, many people attend church and continue to call themselves Christian only for these more secular reasons. Not because they truly believe in the mythology of the Bible anymore than they believe in Santa.

How do we create a substitute that embodies these good things and dispenses with all the judgement, and Iron Age nonsense contained in the Bible? How do we create a sense of community without these institutions?

How do we then bring along the people who actually do believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old into reality?
