grassley can go straight to hell

The tax scam is bad enough without a jackass like Grassley opening his big mouth and showing his true colors (again).
That asshole, in an interview with the DM Register said, "I think not having the estate tax recognizes the people that are investing as opposed to those that are spending every darn penny they have, whether it's on booze or women or movies."
First of all, it'd be nice to be able to make enough money to invest more than I do. Secondly, I have a child, as do MANY other Americans and we are trying to save up enough to maybe help them out financially when they go to college. And..we sure are trying to keep up with medical bills. Not to mention mundane shit like food and shelter. So when I do have an extra buck or two, after working around 50 hours a week and my wife working full time as well, yeah I may stop at a local bar and have a beer or two. And yeah, we like to see movies sometimes too.
That blankety blankin' Grassley really showed what he thinks of the working class Iowans as well as working class Americans. Fuck you Grassley. The Blue wave is coming in 2018. Hope you all are ready for it.

This is part of the problem. What we're up against.

My 9 year old daughter and me were talking earlier today and she said a lot of kids at her school ask her if she's "Mexican or American?" She's neither, she's Filipina. She (of course) has darker skin than us pale whiteys and she still has a Spanish surname as I haven't legally adopted her yet.
Anyway, I told her to look those kids in the eye and state , "I'm Filipina and I'm proud of it." Whether she will or not remains to be seen. But anyway, a question like those kids are asking her shows profound ignorance in my opinion. I don't blame the kids, they are only doing what they are taught at home. And that's sad. I also explained to her that there are some fine Americans who have Mexican heritage as well as other Latino heritage.

From the mouth of babes...

My daughter was in an excellent summer camp program and the day before school started they took a trip to Chicago as a reward for being potential future leaders and mostly for being good kids.
She asked me earlier today if I knew that there was a Trump building up there and I told her that yes I did. She then told me that when they passed the Trump building all the kids booed. So as long as my daughter doesn't get deported and the little AA kids don't get thrown in concentration camps, er, jail, er... Anyway I think there is hope for the future if we can survive that long. Rock on youngsters.

Joni the biker?

The other day, Joni Ernst, the junior senator from Iowa, had a thing called "Ride with Joni" or something like that. Pence was there and so were many other repukes. The whole thing is supposed to be sort of a repuke biker rally or something. Except it was reported in our local paper that she rode about 49 yards to get to the stage. Yep, some bad ass biker she is. But I suppose she should be like the other repukes, phony. If not, she won't fit in.

Something that will (hopefully) make you smile

My dad is in a nursing home, can't walk, and is suffering from dementia and likely early stages of Alzheimer's. Earlier today, my eight year old daughter and I went to visit him and the kid said something amazing, completely unprompted. "Grandpa, I am never going to give up because I know you never give up." Then she gave him a great big ol' hug. I haven't seen my dad with a great big smile like that for a long time. See, this kid is a very loving and gentle young lady and I am bursting with pride. Thank you for indulging me.

Dirty stinkin' repukes want to keep poor people poor

In some counties and at least one city in Iowa, board members voted to raise minimum wage to $8.20 or more. Well, the Iowa repukes will not allow that to happen. They voted to allow the state to step in and negate the minimum wages in those counties and roll it back to $7.25/hr. This is a move business owners have been waiting for and now that the repukes control the Senate, House and Governor's office, they got it.
It's getting harder and harder to justify living in this once great state. I guess I am fortunate that I live in a heavily Democratic district, albeit still somewhat conservative.
There is an article about this on Huffington Post and I imagine every newspaper in the state will have something about it as well. Especially in Iowa City and Lee County.

Things kids say

Last night my 8 year old daughter and I were sitting watching tv (World Baseball Classic in case anyone's interested) and she just blurted out, "Daddy, I hate trump. Is he going to make me leave the U.S.?" I told her, "Not if I have anything to say about it."
Apparently, she's paying attention to me, the news, and I guess her and some of her friends have been discussing the subject at school, amongst themselves. My daughter is Asian. Her best friend is a mixed race girl. One of her other best friends is a white girl. And so on. She's just a kid who wants to do what other kids do. I do not intend to stand in her way. If the trumpites do, they better rethink their stance because this old man is tired of all the bs and is fighting back.

Ok trump, now it's personal

Trump, you are a dirty bastard. This travel ban for immigrants hits home with me. See, I am married to a wonderful immigrant woman and she has a great immigrant daughter. Neither of them are U.S. citizens but they both love this land more than you ever will. My (step) daughter put her hand over her heart the other night when we went to a hockey game and the anthem was performed. My wife works hard and understands that taxes are supposed to be for schools, roads, etc. But neither of them understands what's going on now. They, and I, am afraid that if and when we travel to their homeland, the Philippines, that they may not be allowed to come back to this home which we have put a lot of work and more importantly, love into.
So trump, you sonofabitch, it is on now. Now it's personal. You mess with them, you mess with me. Resist! Fight! Now, we teach the child non violence, but we will do what we have to do to protect this family. Just sayin'.

To those of you watching the great American horror show

Thanks I guess. You are braver than me. You seem to be willing to take one for the team.

I called Grassley about ACA repeal. Again.

I said verbatim, "If I can't get any health care without some financial help from the government then I can't see any reason why the Senator should get any with the help of MY tax dollars.". And I am calling Ernst soon about the same thing. Why should my tax money go to help these parasites when they don't want to help me?
