Message I got from my senator re: Sessions appointment

I sent both of my senators a letter about opposing Sessions. This response seems like nothing more than an f-you. Guess who I will definitely not be supporting in 2018.

Dear Mr. Lord,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the confirmation of Senator Jeff Sessions as United States Attorney General. I appreciate you taking the time to write. It is an honor to serve you in the United States Senate and I hope you will continue to write with your thoughts and ideas on moving our country forward.

On February 8, 2017, with my support, the Senate voted to confirm Senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General by a vote of 52-47. He was officially sworn in on February 9, 2017. Senator Sessions has served as a Senator for the state of Alabama since 1996 and previously served as Alabama Attorney General. Article II of the Constitution requires that the President obtain the advice and consent of the Senate on Presidential appointments.

Senator Sessions has had an impressive legal career and has a profound commitment to upholding the rule of law. I have had the opportunity to work with him in the Senate and witness firsthand his strong record of bipartisanship. I am confident in his ability to serve as the chief law enforcement officer in the country.

Again, thank you for contacting me, and do not hesitate to do so again when an issue is important to you.

Sincerely,

Cory Gardner
United States Senator

Damning reports emerge of Trump campaign's frequent talks with Russian intelligence

Source: The Guardian

The Russian influence scandal engulfing the White House deepened dramatically on Tuesday night with reports that some of Donald Trump’s campaign aides had frequent contact with Russian intelligence officials over the course of last year.

A report in the New York Times came nearly 24 hours after the national security adviser, Michael Flynn, was forced to resign over conversations with the Russian ambassador to Washington and misleading statements about them to the press and vice-president Mike Pence.
Trump knew for weeks Michael Flynn misled over Russia contact

The New York Times report cites four current and former US intelligence officials who are unnamed and who conceded they had “so far” seen no evidence in the intercepted phone communications that Trump campaign officials had cooperated with Russian intelligence in Moscow’s efforts to skew the election in Trump’s favour. The officials do not explain what, in that case, the contacts were about.

A CNN report said “high-level advisers close to then-presidential nominee Donald Trump were in constant communication during the campaign with Russians known to US intelligence”.

Despite the uncertainties, the reports are threatening to the Trump administration on a number of levels....

What will the Don give Melania for Valentines?

Just speculating here:

Diamond earrings + divorce papers?

Mink stole + lots of verbal abuse?

Gold necklace + orders to stay away from the WH?

How will the 9th circuit rule, and what about the SCOTUS?

Pretty sure the 9th circuit will uphold the ban. Anyone see any reason they would not? I think they understand that giving in to tRump would set a dangerous precedent. However, if (when) it goes to the SCOTUS, that is a completely different story. I can see an even split.

How likely is war with Iran?

Personally, I don't think nearly enough time has elapsed since Iraq. No one has forgotten how awful that war was or that it was premised on a lie. So the WH might be salivating over the idea of war, but you can be damned sure that congress is going to put the kybosh on those plans.

Time Associates trump with Right Wing Quebec Mosque Terrorist

Here is the link: http://time.com/4654434/alexandre-bissonnette-quebec-mosque-shooting-donald-trump-marie-le-pen/

What I found very interesting was their last couple of paragraphs:

"He was someone who made frequent extreme comments in social media denigrating refugees and feminism," he told the Globe and Mail. "It wasn't outright hate, rather part of this new nationalist conservative identity movement that is more intolerant than hateful."

Archives of Bissonnette's now-removed Facebook page show he "liked" Le Pen, Trump, the Israel Defense Forces and Richard Dawkins, among many interests.

That last line shows exactly where his sympathies lay. No wonder the attack coincided with the Muslim ban.

Trump sued after Iraqis detained at airport

Source: Politico

President Donald Trump and his new administration are facing legal challenges after two Iraqis with valid visas to enter the United States were detained at a New York airport, following his sweeping executive order that bars citizens from several Muslim-majority nations from entering the country.

Lawyers for the International Refugee Assistance Project and the National Immigration Law Center filed a lawsuit early Saturday in federal court seeking to release Hameed Khalid Darweesh and Haider Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi, who are being held at John F. Kennedy Airport.

Customs and Border Protection agents who detained the men at JFK are pointing to Trump’s executive order, telling the immigrants’ attorneys: “Mr. President. Call Mr. Trump,” according to the 20-page lawsuit. which was also filed by the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization at Yale Law School and the American Civil Liberties Union.

Refugees Detained at U.S. Airports; Trump Immigration Order Is Challenged

Source: NYT

President Trump’s executive order closing the nation’s borders to refugees was put into immediate effect on Friday night. Refugees who were airborne on flights on the way to the United States when the order was signed were stopped and detained at airports.

The detentions prompted legal challenges as lawyers representing two Iraqis held at Kennedy Airport filed a writ of habeas corpus early Saturday in the Eastern District of New York seeking to have their clients released. At the same time, they filed a motion for class certification, in an effort to represent all refugees and immigrants who they said were being unlawfully detained at ports of entry.

Mr. Trump’s order, which suspends entry for all refugees for 120 days, created a legal limbo for people on their way to the United States and panic for families who were awaiting their arrival.

The president’s order also blocks the admission of refugees from Syria indefinitely, and bars entry into the United States for 90 days from seven predominantly Muslim countries linked to concerns about terrorism. Those countries are Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
