Jesus, Greinke is UNHITTABLE right now ...

I don't see how the Nats pull this out ... he's set to go 9 with this pitch count ... could well be one of the most legendary game 7 pitching performances in history ...

FAAAAACKKKKK ...

simon & garfunkel - blues run the game (studio-1965) this sounds f***ing INCREDIBLE for 1965

Strangely, I've never heard this tune before, it just came up on the spotify ... and I have to say I'm absolutely FLOORED this recording is from 1965. Why? Cause of how GREAT it sounds.

Most of my fellow music nerds can nail pretty closely when an older song was recorded just by the way it sounds ... dynamics, tape hiss, etc.

There were HUGE advancements in recording made between 1930 and ... well, now, really ... but I'd say around 1980 was when things started sounding fairly close to as good as they (can) sound nowadays, and most everything out there from pre-1980 'sounds like it's time', recording-wise ... but THIS?

Listen to this song ... 1965? Are you KIDDING ME? The clarity? The noise floor? The dynamic range? Holy balls this sounds amazing for 1965 ...

Oh, and it's also a brilliant song

jason isbell & 400 unit - alabama pines (2012 americana awards) - something about this song ...

it's always kinda hit me like a brick ... I don't quite know why ... maybe cause there's been a few family funerals where 'take me home, country roads' was sung, and it's a little bit like that song ...

gov't mule - soulshine (live) warren haynes and the boys kill it on this allman's classic ...

his LP tone is die for, let me just add ...

bob seger - against the wind (studio-1980) one of my late old man's biggest faves ...

When he'd sing along, he had this way of letting you know how profound/personal the lyrics felt to him ... he'd kinda smile and shake his head and be like 'yup ... that!' ...

Yeah I know you've heard it on the radio so many times at this point ... but if you stop and really listen to the words, and think back to BEFORE you'd heard it so much ... it really is a fucking great song.

This one's for everyone's rebel dad out there ... alive or gone ...

elvin bishop - fooled around and fell in love (studio-1976) this one takes ya back ...

Well, maybe it was only big on the Left Coast, dunno I was a kid but it was all over the radio when it came out in my neck of the woods ... stone-cold classic ... Mickey Thomas shredding on the vocals ...

rita coolidge - higher and higher (studio-1977) one of the great 70's covers

and still sounds fantastic today ...

genesis - like it or not (studio - 1981) - it's been a long, been a long long time ...

man this takes me back to high school ...

and I gotta say, this tune, in particular from the 3:00 mark til the end ... is just f***ing rock and roll perfection ... Stuermer's bassline in the opening verse in particular (pretty sure he still plays with Phil solo as guitarist) is stellar, but the whole thing is genius.

houndmouth - darlin (live kexp 2015) - the colder the heart ... the warmer the gun

just a kickass tune, man. this whole record (little neon limelight) is freakin' great, fyi ...

and for more evidence thereof ... a little vocal round-robin from everyone in the group ...

kris kristofferson - sunday morning coming down (studio-1970)

Gonna be sobering up (for GOOD this time!) in a couple weeks here ... so I figure I'll start digging up my ol' sobriety songs a little early. Settin' the tone, as it were.

Cheers ...
