Gov. Gavin Newsom will order all beaches and state parks closed Friday

"Gov. Gavin Newsom will order all beaches and state parks closed Friday after tens of thousands of people flocked to the seashore last weekend during a heat wave despite his stay-at-home order, according to a memo sent Wednesday evening to police chiefs around the state."

"Eric Nuñez, president of the California Police Chiefs Association, said it was sent to give chiefs time to plan ahead of Newsom’s expected announcement Thursday."

Meanwhile in San Diego...

"San Diego leaders said Wednesday that the county's stay-at-home order will be extended indefinitely, as they lean on the state for guidance on reopening."

"The county will extend to order on Thursday, according to San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten. In terms of opening up, as you heard from the governor yesterday, any jurisdiction opening up is contingent on the guidance and direction of the governor of California," said Wooten. "So we cannot open back up until the state gives the green light to do so."

1,000 more US deaths today than yesterday...

and the day is not over. So far the US is at 2,300+ deaths for today, the 5th highest "daily deaths" to date. Deaths across the US are going up while NYC's is still declining. Should we be opening up at this time?

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

New York has over 300,000 total cases and 23,000 deaths (3,000 died on 9/11).

Boredom sets in...

April 22, 2020

Today the US has almost 3,000 new deaths...

The most daily new deaths of Covid to date. I thought this was supposed to be a bad thing.

Why are we re-opening now?

NOT The Onion, Testicles may make men more vulnerable to coronavirus

"Testicles may make men more vulnerable to coronavirus: study"

"The coronavirus could linger in the testicles, making men prone to longer, more severe cases of the illness, according to a new study."

"...the virus attaches itself to a protein that occurs in high levels in the testicles. This protein, known as angiotensin converting enzyme 2, or ACE2, is present in the lungs, the gastrointestinal tract and the heart in addition to large quantities in the testicles."

"These observations demonstrate that male subjects have delayed viral clearance,” the authors wrote, adding that the testicles may be serving as “reservoirs” for the virus."

"The study may offer an explanation for reports out of Italy, South Korea and New York City that men are dying at higher rates from the virus."

How U.S. Cities Tried to Halt the Spread of the 1918 Spanish Flu

https://www.history.com/news/spanish-flu-pandemic-response-cities

"How U.S. city officials responded to the 1918 pandemic played a critical role in how many residents lived—and died."

"In the late summer of 1918, the devastating second wave of the Spanish flu arrived on America’s shores. Carried by World War I doughboys returning home from Europe, the newly virulent virus spread first from Boston to New York and Philadelphia before traveling West to infect panicked populations from St. Louis to San Francisco. When it was all over, the Spanish flu killed an estimated 675,000 Americans among a staggering 20 to 50 million people worldwide. Certain U.S. cities fared far worse than others, though, and looking back more than a century later there’s evidence that the earliest and most well-organized responses slowed the spread of the disease—at least temporarily—while cities that dragged their feet or let down their guard paid a heavier price."

Philadelphia Holds a Parade
St. Louis Flattened the Infection Curve
San Francisco Enforces Wearing Masks

"But San Francisco’s luck ran out when the THIRD wave of the Spanish flu struck in January 1919. Believing masks were what saved them the first time, businesses and theater owners fought back against public gathering orders. As a result, San Francisco ended up suffering some of the highest death rates from Spanish flu nationwide. The 2007 analysis found that if San Francisco had kept all of its anti-flu protections in place through the spring of 1919, it could have reduced deaths by 90 percent."

*All the cities, despite their various approaches and leadership, had 2nd and 3rd waves hit.

Condoleezza Rice: China Wants To Shift The Narrative On COVID-19, Don't Let Them

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2020/04/16/condoleezza_rice_china_wants_to_shift_the_narrative_on_covid-19_dont_let_them.html
Posted By Tim Hains, On Date April 16, 2020

Rice primarily accuses China of a coverup of the early outbreak of the virus, which cost the world time that could have been used to prepare. It is "very hard to get answers from China," she said.

She concluded: "If you keep the focus on how this started, and China's role in that, they will be embarrassed by that. If you let them shift the narrative to all they've done sending out PPE, you're probably not going to make progress."

I would go to the U.N. Security Council and I would call a meeting. They'll try to veto anything that comes out of it. But I'd call a meeting and say the U.S. is going to share the information, maybe this is where we can bring the Europeans and others along, we're going to share the information on how this started.

First he scapegoats China, then WHO, now Blue Gov.'s states.

Who is he going to use as a scapegoat next? What will his next distraction be?

April 17, 2020

Thousands of more deaths have been reported over the last 24 hours.

Some countries, like China, and some cities, like NYC, are reporting PROBABLE deaths from covid now.

https://www.newsweek.com/coronavirus-update-latest-us-cases-peak-deaths-nate-silver-1498246

"New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had changed guidelines for how coronavirus deaths were to be recorded."

"They want deaths, and then another category of probable deaths," Mr Cuomo said, to be administered by local health departments or coroners. He added that people who passed away outside of a hospital or nursing home may have been missed in previous counts."

"Municipalities in Connecticut, Ohio and Delaware have begun to recorded cases where the infection is assumed but not confirmed with a test, Dr Barbot told the New York Times, while officials in California and Seattle only count virus deaths if proven with a positive test."
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52303739

The guidelines are not consistently being followed by various cities and countries around the world.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/us-data/

Following new CDC guidelines: "As of April 14, 2020, CDC case counts and death counts include both confirmed and probable cases and deaths. This change was made to reflect an interim COVID-19 position statement issued by the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists on April 5, 2020. The position statement included a case definition and made COVID-19 a nationally notifiable disease.

A confirmed case or death is defined by meeting confirmatory laboratory evidence for COVID-19. A probable case or death is defined by i) meeting clinical criteria AND epidemiologic evidence with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19; or ii) meeting presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence; or iii) meeting vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID19"

This change is a further example of one of the many reasons why the label "confirmed cases" (used by some to designate total cases) is incorrect (see definitions for more details). The US CDC (and Worldometer) has always used the label "Total Cases." Canada is another example where the "total number includes publicly reported confirmed and probable cases.

On April 14, New York City reported 3,778 additional deaths that have occurred since March 11 and have been classified as "probable," defined as follows: “decedent [...] had no known positive laboratory test for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) but the death certificate lists as a cause of death “COVID-19” or an equivalent"
