Certified Genius Nicole Hannah Jones' 1619 Project Embodied Unity

Some years, when we say an entity (person, persons of note, or not) embodies Umoja, or unity, the first principle of Kwanzaa, it is because their actions bring together the larger black community (see Tarana Burke in 2017). Other times, it’s more about a personal manifestation of unity (see the workers of KFC in 2018). This year, it’s a bit of both.

This year, Nikole Hannah-Jones is the embodiment of unity, especially for her behemoth enterprise, The 1619 Project, which ran in the New York Times this August. The 1619 Project commemorated the 400th anniversary of the beginning of American chattel slavery, where, to paraphrase Malcolm X, “Plymouth Rock (in this case Point Comfort, Va.) landed on us

Damon Young, [theroot]"I will never forgive white people for Donald Trump"

...I’m reminded, again, of exactly who elected him, exactly why he was elected, exactly who still supports him, and exactly who I hold responsible for this happening. And I’m reminded, again, that I’ll never forgive white people for doing this.

I’m aware that this feeling transmutes white Americans into a collective; distilling a demographic of hundreds of millions down to its least desirable parts. While “not all white people” has become the canonical clichéd reply to this sort of charge, it is also not false. Not all white people voted for Trump. Not all white people support Trump. And sometimes it feels wildly unfair to lump all in with the undesirables. But being fair to white people feels, well, irrational today. It feels dumb to offer a benefit of the doubt while knowing that 54 percent of whites either voted for a racist specifically because he’s racist or didn’t believe racism mattered enough to lose a vote. It feels stupid when realizing that this majority isn’t just the frothing seas of MAGA, but also the white people who seem to be otherwise…decent. A morning shift barista at your favorite neighborhood coffee shop. A co-worker you share silly memes and quiche recipes with.

Today. Woopi Goldberg finally tells Ms spoiled brat Megan to stfu...ok not stfu--now she'll cry

all the way to faux new and to her people in "red states" [as she often refers to them] people whom supposedly listen to her every word..she'll now play the victim that the liberals are being mean to her. Boohoo

Absolutely made my day! A perfect example on how you shut them down, stop their propaganda--you nip it in the bud and leave them speechless.

Trump Ukraine Impeachment Inquiry Report Annotated

Source: CNN

House Intelligence Committee Democrats released a 300-page report outlining their months-long impeachment inquiry into the conduct of President Donald Trump. Based on weeks of dramatic public hearings and additional documents requested from the White House, it’s an indictment of Trump’s pressure on Ukraine and, they say, his threat to the US system of government. We’ve annotated their executive summary and linked to the full report.

The impeachment inquiry into Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, uncovered a months-long effort by President Trump to use the powers of his office to solicit foreign interference on his behalf in the 2020 election.

Rep. Ayanna Pressely's justice reform resolution will fundamentally change America's legal system

[The Root, AnneBranigin 11/14/19]

"Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley introduced on Thursday a comprehensive criminal justice resolution package that would massively restructure America’s legal system—and fundamentally reshape the role prisons and jails play in American life.

Titled the “the People’s Justice Guarantee,” the resolution is a progressive vision of justice that is being touted as “the most progressive and comprehensive plan for overhauling the criminal legal system by a member of Congress,” according to a press release. On top of dozens of legislative proposals, Pressley’s resolution looks to undo decades of policies that have created a mass incarceration crisis.

"The criminal legal system is racist, xenophobic, rogue, and fundamentally flawed beyond reform,” the congresswoman told reporters on a Wednesday call. “It must be dismantled and radically transformed through a large-scale decarceration effort.”
