Joe Biden talking openly about his son Hunter's addiction could save lives

Joe Biden talking openly about his son Hunter's addiction could save lives

I didn't tell my dad when I was struggling and it almost cost me my life. I wish I'd seen a TV moment like Biden's

Last night during the presidential debate, I watched Joe Biden tell the world he was proud of his son conquering addiction. It might have meant nothing to most. But for the millions in recovery it was a breakthrough moment in the national conversation, a moment of admitting we exist. That addiction is a family disease.

"My son, like a lot of people you know at home, had a drug problem. He's overtaken it. He's fixed it. He's worked on it," Biden said. "And I'm proud of him. I'm proud of my son."

My dad never knew I got sober.

He passed away on May 23, 2011. At the time I was struggling. But if I'm honest, I had been absent for years leading up to that too.

On October 12, 2011, I attempted to take my own life. In a moment of clarity, I called my mother, who was, unbeknownst to me, celebrating one year of sobriety. Though we didn't have a good relationship, she talked me through it, and I haven't had a drink since. Now we joke that neither of us can back out of our sobriety or we won't share the same date anymore.

In a few days, she'll have 10 years.

My dad doesn't know any of that.

If I had cancer, people would run marathons for me. If I had diabetes, I could tell everyone and they'd share health tips. But I have a chemical reaction where my dopamine receptors take over my brain when alcohol enters my system, so instead I have to tell nobody and hope there's an open church basement near me in any town I visit. I don't get second medical opinions. I don't get the community to rally around me. I just quietly hope a system with no national organization or medical professionals is going to be there for me. And if I can go to rehab — if I can afford it or if my insurance covers it — regulation and licensing standards differ from state to state, and not all centers participate in national accreditation, so let's hope I picked a good one!

And why? Beca
use it's a sickness where we think the people who get it should feel bad.

And then Joe Biden, a dad himself, went on national television and said his son had a problem and he was proud of him for conquering it.

His war on the post office continues. Mailmen are selling ballots . Good grief

They need to ask him to provide proof for things he says.

I'm glad Biden leaned into Hunter's addiction. He should lean into it more. It would take trump

down a notch. Its another promise he's broken. He promised to do more on the opioid crisis. He has not.
Substance abuse is a health problem for a lot of families. The Biden's are no different. Trump's own brother had a substance abuse problem. Biden should use it more. He should probably have Hunter speak on it if you ask me, speak to families struggling with their addiction and how this administration has done nothing and how cutting Obamacare would be detrimental, because it covers substance abuse treatment.

Shut the fuck up!

How many more of these do we have to suffer through?

I don't think Biden should do any more debates with this toddler.

Mark Cuban, a real billionaire, did a beautiful thing today, trump has never ever done anything

for anyone other than himself that I can remember. There is no record of him being a charitable person in any way. His fake charity was a fraud. I cannot think of anything that trump did over the years that was for the good of humanity. Nothing at all. Why did anyone ever think he would be a good public servant? To run for public office, one should have already demonstrated that quality. The ability to serve the public. Not the other way around.

For those that don't follow the NBA - Delonte West has been struggling with mental illness since he left the NBA and has been homeless and living on the street. Several pictures and videos have surfaced of him obviously in a mental health crisis, looking dirty and unkempt on the streets. Its been quite sad to see his decline, and even more disturbing that people routinely film or take his picture and post it online.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban picks up Delonte West at gas station, offers to pay for rehab

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban personally picked up Delonte West at a Dallas area gas station on Monday in an attempt to help the now homeless former NBA player after more stunning photos surfaced last week.

Cuban, according to TMZ and ESPN, had been trying to get in contact with West for days after photos of him panhandling in the Dallas area surfaced last week. He finally connected with West at a gas station and reportedly took him to a local hospital.

Cuban, along with West’s family and friends, have been trying to get him to go to a drug rehabilitation facility — something Cuban has offered to pay for.

West was seen panhandling in the area last week.

West struggling after latest incident

West played in the league for eight seasons from 2004-2012, most notably with the Boston Celtics — who picked him up with the No. 24 overall pick. He last played for the Mavericks in 2012, but was suspended twice and eventually waived.

He averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 assists throughout his career.

West revealed midway through his career that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, something he’s struggled with in recent years.

Said on MSNBC, so true. He rails against immigrants, and some of them pay more taxes to support USA

than he does. Even some of the undocumented immigrants pay taxes and he doesn't.

Republicans want Bloomberg investigated for helping non profit that pays felons' fines

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — Gov. Ron DeSantis, Attorney General Ashley Moody and state Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis called for investigations Wednesday into former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg joining the effort to help Florida felons pay outstanding legal fees so they can register to vote in November.

Moody, saying her office was acting at the request of DeSantis, asked the FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate Bloomberg raising at least $16 million for the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, contending it could be a violation of state laws against offering incentives to people or groups in exchange for voting in a particular manner.

“After preliminarily reviewing this limited public information and law, it appears further investigation is warranted,” Moody wrote to Michael McPherson, special agent in charge of the Tampa office of the FBI, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Richard Swearingen. “Accordingly, I request that your agencies further investigate this matter and take appropriate steps as merited.”
