"Rand Paul doodled."

Heather Cox Richardson's daily digest knocked it out of the park again! This is why I read Letters from an American every day.

The defense lawyers’ problem, of course, is that they are being asked to defend the indefensible. They know it; we know it; Republican senators who have been defended Trump know it. During the video of the insurrection, Trump supporters Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) looked at papers on their desks, Rick Scott (R-FL) looked at papers on his lap, and Rand Paul (R-KY) doodled.

Rebekah Jones drops lawsuit against state of Florida, plans to refile

Source: Washington Post

TALLAHASSEE — Former Florida Department of Health whistle-blower Rebekah Jones has moved to dismiss her lawsuit against the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that alleged that the state violated her constitutional rights when agents raided her Tallahassee townhome in December.

Jones’ lawyer, Richard E. Johnson, said she could not continue the case because of a pending criminal case against her but will refile the lawsuit when that case is resolved.

“You can’t do a criminal case and a civil case at the same time,’' Johnson said Tuesday. “The criminal case has to go first. It’s better to dismiss it so you can start over with the facts as they exist at the time of refiling.”

'An excuse to make it harder for everyday citizens to have their voices heard'

“Instead of an intense focus on ending the rising death toll and economic hardships caused by COVID-19, we see instead our state leaders working to give corporations immunity from COVID-19 lawsuits, criminalize peaceful protests, and pass unpopular abortion bans,” Ferrulo wrote. “These are the wrong priorities even in the best of times, and to use COVID as an excuse to silence citizens who want to participate in the democratic process and defeat these proposals is shameful.”

In other words ... so much for “government in the sunshine.”

If you live in Florida, please show the Phoenix some love by sharing their links and throwing a few bucks their way. This is real journalism, folks!
