Scary info

From the Kareem newsletter. trump is teh most trusted news source for Republicans about the Ukrain war...
How do you reach these people with the truth?

This Week in Trump-Induced Insanity
Trump Shockingly Finishes First In New Poll — And It's Not About The Election (HuffPost)

Nearly 80% of Republicans take the criminally indicted former president at his word on the conflict.

Meanwhile, 60% of Republicans trust the Pentagon, putting the military source a little ahead of Fox News and other conservative media, which came in at 56%. A mere 33% trusted journalists reporting from the war zone, while 27% put faith in the State Department.

MY TAKE: This might seem like a throwaway article that’s worth a head shake and nothing more. But it’s far more dangerous than that and to dismiss it lightly is a mistake. Almost 80% of Republicans use Trump as their most reliable source for information about a war he’s repeatedly given misinformation about. He’s also proven himself to be a servant to Putin, despite Putin being a dictator, a murderer, and a braggart about interfering with U.S. elections. The fall of Ukraine has the potential to pull the U.S. into a ground war that will cost us lives as well as much more money, yet, the Republicans seem eager to do Putin’s bidding.

This is proof that the GOP’s constant berating of legitimate news outlets to create mistrust of facts has had a detrimental effect on the country. We should have taught our children how to seek out unbiased information to make rational decisions. Instead, we’ve ended up with self-serving “news” that makes it easier for people not to have to think but just react. Forming opinions isn’t supposed to be easy or instantaneous. It should require reading, researching, thinking, and arguing. But in a culture that rushes to embrace AI over putting in their own effort, the only intelligence we’ll have left is artificial.

Going to Trump for reliable information is like getting all your food from a toxic waste dump thinking the toxic chemicals made the food more nutritious.

What a weather week in Munich

Last weekend we were in the Biergarten with warm weather and sunny days..
Then... This week.
Snow has been falling today for almost 2 hours and is actually sticking.
This is the third snow fall this week.
We have had cold rain.
We had two bouts of hail. Including yesterday.
Fortunatley the temps stayed above freezing at night, barely.

What next?

Dali bridge collision

Just reading an article about ship propulsion issues in the WaPo. Not that uncommon an issue.

Here is a quick snippet.

The Post analysis found that 424 cargo ships longer than 600 feet reported losing propulsion — meaning the engines were shut down — in U.S. waters over the past three years. About a quarter of the incidents occurred near a port, bridge or other infrastructure, the analysis found.

The records on propulsion loss were up to date through March 17, before the incidents involving the Dali and the Qingdao. After reports of the Qingdao incident surfaced on social media, the Coast Guard said the ship suffered a loss of propulsion.

In some cases reviewed by The Post, engines suddenly cut out. In others, crews were compelled to shut them down to deal with operating problems. The owner and operator of the APL Qingdao said that its engine was shut down in a “controlled” manner after an engine alarm was triggered and that the ship did not lose electrical power.

Good question

This quote from the NYT's Peter Coy newsletter.

Egg Puzzle

Here in Munich, we can get hardboiled eggs all year round in the food stores. They come in different guises depending on the season or anticipated time of consumption. There are Colourful eggs, Bunte Eier, Picnic Eier, Easter eggs, Oestereier. and Breadtime eggs, Brotzeit Eier.
Todays quiz is to match the eggs with their correct container.
