Stevie Ray Vaughan would have been 64 today.

Taken away from us way too soon at only 35 years old.

Buyer Beware!

If you're looking for cheaper health insurance, a whole host of new options will hit the market starting Tuesday.

But buyer beware!

If you get sick, the new plans – known as short-term, limited duration insurance — may not pay for the medical care you need.

In Virginia, for example, short term plans are available for less than $70 a month, with a $5,000 deductible. One policy, offered by Stamford, Conn.-based IHC Group on the web site eHealthInsurance.com, doesn't cover prescription drugs unless you're inpatient in a hospital, and it doesn't cover prenatal care, mental health care or annual physicals.

UnitedHealthCare says it plans to offer short-term plans in several states. The company's web site shows policies that range from one with a $12,500 annual deductible for less than $80 a month to one with a $1,000 deductible for about $250 a month. The policies don't cover prescription drugs and only pay about 60 percent of the cost of hospital visits after the deductible and co-payment. And patients may have to get a physical to qualify at all.

The 3 liberal leaning female judges on the SCOTUS

I can't help but wonder what they are thinking about this horror show and the possibility they will have to work with this entitled misogynist.

Airports all over the world are sinking

From the ramp tower 120 feet above the runway, it's clear Philadelphia International Airport is surrounded by water. There is wetland, a network of creeks, and just a couple hundred yards away, the tidal Delaware River leading out to the Bay. As with many airports, the original idea was to build on a large tract of land convenient to a city, but far enough away from homes and tall buildings. Often, that meant coastal wetlands and landfill.

Now, such airports are threatened.

A federal report lists Philadelphia International as one of 13 major U.S. airports that have at least one runway within 12 feet of current sea levels. There are many more at risk around the world, and some have already faced flight disruptions or closure from storms and floods.

Climate scientists, city planners, and engineers say that will become more common as sea levels rise, storm surge and intense rain events worsen, and - in some areas - the land slowly sinks. Increasingly, it won't take a major tropical storm to shut down an airport.

********* I guess that important infrastructure bill we were promised has had to take a back seat to all the "more important" stuff that Trump and the GOP deem a higher priority............

New rule would deny green cards to immigrants who use food stamps or public housing

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration announced a proposed rule Saturday that would make it harder for immigrants already in the U.S. legally, as well as those seeking to enter, to obtain visas or green cards if they have ever been dependent on certain public benefits, like food stamps or public housing.

The proposal, which can become a rule after a public comment period, rewrites a 1999 rule that limited green cards from immigrants who were dependent on cash benefits, but did not take into consideration healthcare or other non-monetary benefits.

"This proposed rule will implement a law passed by Congress intended to promote immigrant self-sufficiency and protect finite resources by ensuring that they are not likely to become burdens on American taxpayers," said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Part of me wonders if this is being exceptionally cruel, and the other part of me wonders how many undocumented people take advantage of public services at all because they don't want to have their names on any kind of government documentation for fear of being deported.

Nice to see

I'm starting to see Sherrod Brown and Cordray/Sutton yard signs around here lately.

I can't tell you how wonderful that is to see, after all those disgusting blue Trump signs I saw everywhere in 2016.
