judge says it wouldnt be right to sentence rapist to prison. Blames parents for the rape

https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/illinois-judges-reversal-rape-conviction-draws-anger-82230297

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10396583/Judge-declares-rapist-INNOCENT-sentencing-says-148-days-custody-long-enough.html

Judge declares rapist INNOCENT during sentencing and says 148 days in custody is 'plenty of punishment' as victim, 16, waives anonymity: 'I woke up at my friend's place with a pillow over my face so I couldn't be heard and Drew Clinton inside of me'

--------

An Illinois judge has reversed his own decision to convict a teen accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in May, saying 148 days in custody in county jail was 'plenty of punishment.'

-------------

'By law, the court is supposed to sentence this young man to the Department of Corrections. This court will not do that. That is not just,' Judge Adrian said on January 3.

'There is no way for what happened in this case that this teenager should go to the Department of Corrections. I will not do that.'

Rather than carry out the minimum four-year sentence for sexual assault after finding Clinton guilty in an October bench trial, Judge Adrian instead ruled that the prosecutors had failed to prove their case, effectively setting Clinton, who now lives in Michigan, free.

During the trial, Judge Adrian ultimately blamed parents for what happened at the party and suggested sexual assault was only natural when parents hold 'parties for teenagers, and they allow coeds and female people to swim in their underwear in their swimming pool.'

Man Hammers Away at Statue by Pedophile

After four hours, police brought the man down in a cherry picker, reports the Daily Mail. Another man nearby who had been livestreaming and discussing pedophiles was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

In 2007, the BBC looked at Gill's legacy, calling him "one of the most respected artists of the 20th Century and noting that "the outrage has not significantly undermined his status." Gill works still on public display include the Stations of the Cross sculpture at Westminster Cathedral, though Margaret Kennedy, a campaigner for abuse survivors, urged the church to take them down in 1998. "Survivors couldn't pray at the Stations of the Cross. They were done by a pedophile," she said. "The very hands that carved the stations were the hands that abused."

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/589346-wva-governor-extremely-unwell-after-positive-covid-19-test

West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) announced on Tuesday he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was feeling "extremely unwell."

According to press release, Justice, who is fully vaccinated and boosted, got tested after experiencing a "sudden onset of symptoms." West Virginia first lady Cathy Justice tested negative on Tuesday evening.

“While I was surprised that my test results came back positive, I’m thankful to the Lord above that I’ve been vaccinated, I’ve been boosted, and that I have an incredible support system, especially my loving family,” Justice said in a statement. “That being said, I feel extremely unwell at this point, and I have no choice but to postpone my State of the State address to the Legislature."

Justice, 70, received a course of monoclonal antibody treatment on Tuesday evening on the recommendation of his physicians, with his age placing him at a higher risk of severe illness, according to the press release.

Judge shames 72-year-old cancer patient too weak to tend to his lawn

But 31st District Judge Alexis G. Krot had no sympathy for Chowdhury. Instead, she shamed the cancer patient for the neighborhood blight in Hamtramck, Mich. — and told him the punishment she wished she could have given him.

“You should be ashamed of yourself!” Krot said on Monday. “If I could give you jail time on this, I would.”

After issuing Chowdhury a $100 fine for failing to keep up with home maintenance, Krot called the amount of grass on his walkways “totally inappropriate.” When Chowdhury reiterated that he was “very sick,” Krot said his inability to keep up with his property was inexcusable.

“The neighbors should not have to look at that,” she told him. Krot repeated: “You should be ashamed of yourself!”

high school students continue to use this racist phrase to ask date for dance

Parents are worried, students are speechless and the superintendent has issued a letter after a racist comment was used on a poster invitation for a school dance.

The poster in question said, “If I was black, I’d be picking cotton…but I’m white so I’m picking you!”

It was reportedly written by a female student who asked a male student to the Sweetheart Ball next month at Thunder Ridge High School. Photos of the poster quickly made the rounds on social media and on Tuesday, Bonneville Joint School District 93 Superintendent Scott Woolstenhulme sent a letter to families and employees addressing the issue.

------

“As Superintendent, I feel a personal responsibility to our students, our staff, and our families who have been offended and hurt by this poster. While I will never be able to personally understand how it feels to be a target of racist and bigoted language, I recognize how traumatic such language must be,” Woolstenhulme wrote. “I am deeply sorry that such an awful remark was connected to our schools.”

Woolstenhulme added he was “devastated” that this act made its way into the district after similar incidents have been reported across the country over the past few years.

street musician spent years building a one-of-a-kind drum kit on wheels. 1 morning, it was gone

A street musician spent years building a one-of-a-kind drum kit on wheels. Then, one morning, it was gone

-----------------

Less than a month ago, however, he woke up to find the truck and the attached drum kit stolen off the street outside his Hawthorne apartment.

It had taken Sheriff nearly six years to custom-build the four-wheeled drum set, a painstaking process filled with fits and setbacks. The former owner of an appliance business, he’d hand-crafted the metal that made the setup possible, cutting, shaping and bending each slab before adding the eye-catching details and the bright “#SheriffDrumman” sign hoisted high above the vehicle.

--------------

“When I got outside, I had a total panic attack,” said Sheriff, 34. “I fainted in front of my neighbors. I started screaming, I was calling for help like someone had shot me. It felt like the devastating news of a loved one being murdered.”

---------

Although the truck was insured, the policy didn’t cover any of Sheriff’s additions such as the drums and lighting. With the help of Guitar Center, fan donations and a private donor who requested to remain anonymous, he purchased “Honey,” along with lighting, speakers and most of what he needs to restore the truck.

Still, he estimates that he’s about $10,000 short on replacing everything and that it’ll take at least another month before the setup is fully functional once again.

While Cleaning Gun, Mom Shoots 4-Year-Old--Twice

While Cleaning Gun, Mom Shoots 4-Year-Old—Twice
Child was hospitalized in critical condition, mother was arrested

A Detroit mother told police that someone tried to grab her purse outside their apartment Friday afternoon before opening fire, and that her 4-year-old child was struck twice by bullets. By that night, however, the woman had confessed there was no robbery—police say she was actually trying to clean her gun when she accidentally pulled the trigger, NBC News reports. The child was shot in the arm and the leg and was hospitalized in critical condition, ClickOn Detroit reports. The mother was arrested. The truth came to light after police discovered the crime scene was inside, not outside, the home

Judge upholds firing of 2 cops who played Pokemon go rather than respond to robbery in progress

A California judge has refused to reinstate two former Los Angeles police officers who chose to play Pokemon Go rather than respond to a robbery in progress. The officers, Louis Lozano and Eric Mitchell, had ignored a commanding officer's request for backup during a robbery at the Crenshaw Mall in April 2017 so as to play the mobile game, which was then all the rage, reports the Verge.

Their squad car was near the mall when the call went out, but then left the area, prompting questions from a supervisor. The pair reportedly claimed they couldn't hear their radio due to noise. But their dashcam recorded the officers blatantly ignoring the request.

"I don't want to be his help," Lozano allegedly said, per USA Today. "Aw, screw it." For the next 20 minutes, the camera "captured petitioners discussing Pokemon as they drove to different locations where the virtual creatures apparently appeared on their mobile phones," according to the Friday ruling from the California Court of Appeal. After catching a Snorlax Pokemon, Mitchell apparently nabbed a Togetic, commenting that "the guys are going to be so jealous." Both officers were subsequently fired, though they complained that they were questioned without legal or labor representation and argued the department improperly used footage of their private conversation, per the Los Angeles Times.

Upholding a lower court ruling, the judge found the department's use of the video was justified. Indeed, "it would be preposterous to require commanding officers and internal affairs investigators to ignore evidence of 'criminal or egregious misconduct' simply because it was unintentionally captured." The judge also found the supervisor who questioned the officers before any misconduct was known was just doing their job.
