Orange County is still 'mother ship' for GOP money, but shift from red to purple accelerates

Orange County is still ‘mother ship’ for GOP money, but shift from red to purple accelerates

--------

But contrary to Orange County’s public image as the heart of COVID-19 denial, about 83% of residents believe the coronavirus is a real threat, according to a recent Chapman University poll. Nearly three-quarters said they would support a national mask mandate.

“We’re no longer your grandfather’s Orange County,” said Fred Smoller, a political science professor at Chapman University, who co-created the annual survey with colleague Michael Moodian. “The county has changed, and some people have woken up to those changes, and some people have not.”

Longtime Republican Dan Ardell didn’t think twice about casting his ballot against the recall.

This isn’t the first time Ardell, 80, a Laguna Beach resident who worked in commercial real estate before retiring, has gone with a Democrat. He voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and against Trump both times.

The Republican Party as he knew it doesn’t exist anymore, said Ardell, who nevertheless has no plans to change his party registration.

“There’s the cult of Trump, and then there’s the others who are either unwilling or incapable or are going to get slaughtered if they pull away from the cult,” he said.

woman started blood drive from unvaxxed only

A woman’s 52-year-old unvaccinated husband landed in the hospital from severe Covid symptoms last month and needed to be placed in the ICU with a ventilator and ECMO.

Her tweets about the tragic situation reveal her refusal to let doctors administer provided much-needed care, for fear he would receive vaccinated blood.

The woman refused her husband a vaccinated blood transfusion before he died from COVID-19.
After a month-long fight, her husband passed away from the virus, she claims this wasn’t because he was unvaccinated.

The woman’s original tweet claimed that she was starting her own personal blood drive for her husband because blood banks weren’t separating vaccinated blood from the unvaccinated blood.

Florida Police Officers Filmed Taunting Bloodied Man, Drinking His Gatorade

https://twitter.com/RonFilipkowski/status/1444071906504810502

Footage has emerged of a bloodied and handcuffed suspect being openly taunted by police officers in Florida who drank from the man's soda while he pleaded to be taken to hospital.

----------
According to the news outlet, Vaughn was taken down and handcuffed by police while trying to film the arrest of another man, Dalonta Crudup, 24, on his cellphone inside the Royal Palm Hotel on South Beach on July 26.

In the video, a visibly distressed Vaughn can be heard telling officers "You all beat me for no reason." An unnamed officer can be heard responding "We beat you for a reason" on the clip, which comes from a police body camera.

The handcuffed Vaughn continues to plead his innocence on the footage. "I didn't resist. I wasn't arrested," he says. "I backed up. You all said back up. Somebody said 20 feet and I backed up. And what happened? All of you charged me and beat me."

At this point, an officer can be heard interjecting to tell Vaughn to "stop crying."

"Stop crying? Look at my face," he replies. "You all did that [expletive] for no reason," Vaughn said." An officer responds: "You chose your destiny."

Vaughn is heard rejecting this claim and expressing disbelief at the officer's remarks. "I did not. I backed up," he says. "That's kind of crazy. What do you mean I chose my destiny? I backed up."

Later in the video, an officer can be seen taking Vaughn's Gatorade and loudly gulping it while Vaughn asks: "Can you take me to the hospital? I can feel myself bleeding."

Responding to the officer's deliberately audible drinking, Vaughn says: "I don't know what you are getting out of that" to which the officer replies "I'm getting hydrated." Towards the end of the footage, another voice can be heard telling Vaughn to go back to New York where he is from.

TikToker shows how he keeps people from walking across his lawn, sparking debate

According to Lyon’s post, the sprinkler is automated, and seems to be triggered by motion. So every time someone gets to a certain point in the yard, it turns on.

Some viewers were seriously pressed about the method, with many insisting it shouldn’t be a big deal to let strangers walk on the lawn because it’s “just grass.”

“Never understood why walking on the lawn was such a bad thing,” wrote @wolf_man89. “It’s grass.”

“Girl let those kids get home a minute faster,” another viewer commented.

Another complained that it’s actually “rude” to stop strangers from trespassing on your lawn because they may need to “go somewhere fast without access to vehicles.”

But others pushed back, with the reminder that it’s disrespectful to intrude on someone else’s property and that so much traipsing across the grass can cause pricey damage that the owner will be responsible for.

“It isn’t just about walking on the grass. We owners have to clean up the garbage they drop, replace grass that is killed by constant foot traffic,” @doggo_mom_life pointed out.

“You just know the ones saying it’s no big deal it’s just grass…still live at home or are renters,” said @itdude2020.

Alabama gov signs bill to use covid funds to build prisons

https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/01/politics/alabama-covid-relief-prison-bills-signed-governor-kay-ivey/index.html

' (CNN)Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law Friday a number of prison infrastructure bills that will use coronavirus relief funds to build new prisons in the state, calling it a "pivotal moment for the trajectory of our state's criminal justice system."

Ivey, a Republican, had convened a special session of the Alabama Legislature to discuss how to fix what she has called a decades-long problem of prison infrastructure challenges. The governor said Friday's bill signing was the culmination of hard work and conversations between lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

"I'd like to personally offer my thanks to the legislative leadership who are standing behind me right here, for a successful special session, and what we believe will yield untold benefits to all Alabamians in the days ahead," Ivey said.

As Bikers Throng the Streets, 'It's Like Paris Is in Anarchy' - rising tensions with pedestrians

As Bikers Throng the Streets, ‘It’s Like Paris Is in Anarchy’
An ecologically minded experiment to make Paris a cycling capital of Europe has led to a million people now pedaling daily — and to rising tensions with pedestrians.

PARIS — On a recent afternoon, the Rue de Rivoli looked like this: Cyclists blowing through red lights in two directions. Delivery bike riders fixating on their cellphones. Electric scooters careening across lanes. Jaywalkers and nervous pedestrians scrambling as if in a video game.

Sarah Famery, a 20-year resident of the Marais neighborhood, braced for the tumult. She looked left, then right, then left and right again before venturing into a crosswalk, only to break into a rant-laden sprint as two cyclists came within inches of grazing her.

“It’s chaos!” exclaimed Ms. Famery, shaking a fist at the swarm of bikes that have displaced cars on the Rue de Rivoli ever since it was remade into a multilane highway for cyclists last year. “Politicians want to make Paris a cycling city, but no one is following any rules,” she said. “It’s becoming risky just to cross the street!”

-------

But with success has come major growing pains.

“It’s like Paris is in anarchy,” said Jean-Conrad LeMaitre, a former banker who was out for a stroll recently along the Rue de Rivoli. “We need to reduce pollution and improve the environment,” he said. “But everyone is just doing as they please. There are no police, no fines, no training and no respect.”

Jason Aldean Reacts to Backlash Over Wife's Anti-Biden Post: 'I Will Never Apologize for My Beliefs'

After Jason Aldean’s wife Brittany received backlash for posting photos of her kids wearing anti-President Biden T-shirts, the country star took to Instagram to defend his family and his beliefs.

“I will never apologize for my beliefs or my love for my family and country,” Aldean wrote Thursday alongside a photo of his silhouette in front of an American flag. “This is the greatest country in the world and I want to keep it that way. #unapologetic #phoenixwasfire”

The singer’s statement comes after Brittany Aldean posted a photo wearing a shirt that reads “Anti Biden Social Club,” while another picture showed the couple’s children, 4-year-old son Memphis and 2-year-old daughter Navy, wearing black shirts emblazoned with the message “Hidin’ From Biden.” Though Aldean himself was not pictured wearing anti-Biden clothing in the photos, he did comment on a photo of his son wearing one of the shirts, writing, “My boy!”

When one Instagram user accused Brittany of using the couple’s children as “political props,” Aldean also defended his family. According to The Washington Post, Aldean commented, saying, “Watch ur mouth lady! We will teach our kids what we think is right and what we think is best for their future. If you think what is happening right now is ‘great’ for the future of our kids and grandkids, u are delusional!” When a commenter stated, “If you thought Trump’s path for America was any better, you’re delusional!,” to which Aldean responded, “Definitely better than what we got now! Please tell me one thing that the current administration has done that is positive? Just 1!!!”
