Donors laughed. The hotel was Trumps. They were paying the president to cater his own fundraiser.
The Chicago event exemplifies a pattern of the Trump presidency: It was another presidential trip that brought Trump private benefits. The hotel was paid about $100,000 for the lunch, according to a Republican official who helped coordinate it.
Trumps presence also gave a boost to a property that, like some of his others, is suffering from financial decline.
Profits fell 89 percent from 2015 to 2018, from $16.7 million to $1.8 million, according to documents filed with Cook County, Ill. Trumps hotel struggled even as other Chicago hotels held steady or thrived.
Performance of [the Trump hotel] is clearly disassociated from that of its competitive set, the companys lawyers said in a letter to the county seeking to lower the hotels taxes.
The lawyers said the problem was a reaction to Trumps politics. They even quoted a line from a 2018 Washington Post article, in which one small-time investor described the effect of Trumps candidacy on his buildings thusly: Then the Embarrassment came.
Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, which prides itself on indulgent luxury, is trying to keep up by cutting costs. In a presentation to investors, obtained by The Post, the company described leaving jobs open, cutting back on gifts for high rollers and children, and buying cheaper housekeeping supplies.
As Trump concludes the tumultuous third year of his presidency, it is becoming clear that the political environment he helped create is having consequences for the real estate empire he and his family built.

freepers aren't happy tonight as you can imagine
Virginia is the first state of the old confederacy to go full (liberal)Democrat.
Expect it to start declining into the Sh%thole that is every other Democratic stronghold.
It will be California but without the really nice weather, and scenic mountains .
In other words, New Jersey.

Stick a fork in beautiful Virginia... it's done. George Soros' $$ contributed to the win in VA tonight.
20 years ago, I wanted to move to formerly 'Red' Virginia to escape the high taxes and socialism of The People's Republik of Connecticut (where we're still stuck). That's gone forever... Virginia is now South Maryland. Just another insane Blue State. It may as well be Connecticut.
We're now concentrating on SC, GA or FL.
Where do conservatives go if *all* 50 states turn Blue??
691,000 people moved out of California last year. Here's where they went.
Here are the most popular destinations for Californians moving out of state, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's annual American Community Survey:
Texas: 86,164 people
Arizona: 68,516 people
Washington: 55,467 people
Nevada: 50,707 people
Oregon: 43,058 people
Colorado: 28,288 people
Florida: 26,888 people
New York: 25,255 people
Virginia: 21,210 people
Idaho: 21,018 people
Even for those hanging on to the California dream, more than half are considering leaving, according to a recent UC Berkeley poll. As for why people keep moving out of the Golden State, there's no real surprise there: The high cost of housing was the number one reason cited.

is this another female wave election? Tucson elects first latina and first female mayor
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/469168-regina-romero-elected-first-female-latina-mayor-of-tucson?itok=wA4HQQEP
Former Tucson City Council member Regina Romero (D) was elected the city's first female and first Latina mayor on Tuesday.
Romero won roughly 55 percent of the vote, according to Tucson's ABC affiliate. Independent Ed Ackerley trailed Romero with around 36 percent, and Green Party candidate Ed Ackerley brought in 3 percent.
The former councilwoman beat out two other Democrats in the party's primary in August.
Romero previously worked as the director of Latino engagement at the Center for Biological Diversity in Tucson.
While Tucson has long been seen as a stronghold for Democrats, Arizona has been more dominated by Republicans, though the state has been increasingly viewed as a battleground going into 2020.

Krispy Kreme strikes deal with college kid who drives 250 miles to resell its doughnuts
https://www.cnn.com/2019/11/05/us/krispy-kreme-minnesota-trnd/index.htmlKrispy Kreme closed its last store in Minnesota in 2008, the Pioneer Press said.
Gonzalez came up with the idea to drive to a Krispy Kreme in Clive, Iowa, to pick up boxes of Krispy Kreme and deliver them to Minnesotans while traveling to Iowa to coach in a soccer tournament, according to the Pioneer Press.
After coming across a Krispy Kreme during his trip, Gonzalez posted to Facebook Marketplace to see if anyone in Minnesota would be interested in getting some doughnuts.
In just a few days, Gonzalez told the Pioneer Press that he received more than 300 responses.
Gonzalez did not respond to a request for comment from CNN.
-----
A box of a dozen original glazed doughnuts from Krispy Kreme starts at $9.49, according to its website. The Pioneer Press said that Gonzalez resells them from $17 to $20 per box, depending on the variety.
The drive from the Twin Cities to Clive is more than 250 miles and takes approximately four hours. A typical run for Gonzalez would start on a Saturday at 2 a.m., when he would begin his 4-hour trek to Iowa to pick up the doughnuts, according to the Pioneer Press.
Gonzalez can fit 100 boxes of doughnuts into his Ford Focus, according to the Pioneer Press. Once loaded, he would begin his return trip while alerting his followers of the pickup locations on his route. Most pickups are done in the parking lot of a local Target, the Pioneer Press said.
------
After 19 successful runs, Gonzalez wrote in a post on his Facebook page that he was told by Krispy Kreme to "shut down operations."
The company tells CNN that it was concerned that the doughnuts were not meeting its quality standards due to the long drive from Iowa to Minnesota.
However, after an outpouring of support, the company is now working on a deal with Gonzalez to allow him to become an independent operator.
