Congressman-elect Luke Letlow has died after being diagnosed with Covid-19, his spokesman confirmed Tuesday evening.

"Congressman-elect Luke Letlow, 41, passed away this evening at Ochsner-LSU Health Shreveport due to complications from COVID-19," Letlow spokesman Andrew Bautsch wrote in a post on the Republican congressman-elect's Facebook page.

Letlow's family, he said, "appreciates the numerous prayers and support over the past days but asks for privacy during this difficult and unexpected time."

Two Republican sources also confirmed Letlow's passing to CNN. The News-Star in Monroe, Louisiana, was first to report Letlow's death.

(CNN)A homeless man risked his life to save several cats and dogs trapped at an Atlanta animal shelter after it caught fire, the facility's founder said.

Keith Walker, 53, rushed into the W-Underdogs shelter on December 18 after a fire engulfed its kitchen.
"I was nervous as hell, I'm not going to lie. I was really scared to go in there with all that smoke. But God put me there to save those animals," Walker told CNN. "If you love a dog, you can love anyone in the world. My dog is my best friend, and I wouldn't be here without him, so I knew I had to save all those other dogs."
While the shelter was not completely destroyed, the fire left it uninhabitable, according to W-Underdogs founder Gracie Hamlin.

Luckily, W-Underdogs was only a week away from moving into its new facility in Atlanta, where the animals now reside.
"He is my guardian angel," Hamlin told CNN. "Even the firefighters didn't want to handle the dogs. They called animal control, but Keith was already in the building pulling out the cats and dogs until they were all safe."

The sprint begins the moment President Obama leaves the White House Friday morning with his family to head to the inauguration of his successor.

That's when the clock starts at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for 95 staff members, who have roughly five hours to flip the White House for its new residents.

Furniture gets swapped, walls repainted and artwork replaced, all in accordance with the wishes of the incoming first family.

"They literally move all your stuff out in one day," President Obama explained recently on "The Tonight Show."

The White House may have served as home to the Obama family on Friday morning, but its welcome mat belongs to the Trumps that afternoon.

"I don't think anyone else in the world moves within five hours from the previous tenants,” said Stephen Rochon, a retired rear admiral and former White House chief usher who oversaw the transition between President George W. Bush and President Obama in January 2009.

Each family makes their wishes known. President Obama, for example, had only one special request.

“He wanted a nice shower head,” Rochon recalled with a chuckle. “And so we had to make sure that that was in place."

The Oval Office gets a slight revamp, too, with each president adding personal preferences.
