Cubans Split Over More Liberal Family Code as Referendum Nears

The new code would legalize same sex marriage and civil unions, allow such couples to adopt children, double down on women's rights, and promote equal sharing of domestic responsibilities. It also adds such novelties as prenuptial agreements and assisted pregnancy.

Parents would have "responsibility" instead of "custody" of children, and be required to be "respectful of the dignity and physical and mental integrity of children and adolescents."

The code repeatedly states parents and courts should grant maturing offspring more say over their lives.

But the outcome of the referendum vote, slated for sometime this fall, is far from certain.

The Cuban Roman Catholic Church has lashed out against gay marriage, saying the proposal is riddled with "gender ideology" that threatens parental authority and would lead to "indoctrination of children in schools without parental consent."

--------

The code reflects the growing clout of women on the island, where they are increasingly represented in political leadership, experts said.

Females already head nearly half of Cuban households, according to government statistics, and make up more than 60% of Cuban professionals.

Town Sues 82-Year-Old Over Public Records Requests , says she files too many

Town Sues 82-Year-Old Over Public Records Requests
New Jersey's Irvington Township says Elouise McDaniel's demands are too burdensome

A town in New Jersey is suing one of its own senior citizens, accusing her of filing too many requests for public records. Irvington Township accuses Elouise McDaniel, 82, of harassment and defamation, and a big reason is that she filed 75 requests for information about Mayor Tony Vauss and his administration over three years, reports NJ.com. In the lawsuit, the town says McDaniel has filed her requests "with the sole purpose and intent to harass, abuse and harm Plaintiffs and employees of the Township, including its Mayor," per NBC4 New York. It adds that trying to fill the "voluminous OPRA requests has been unduly burdensome, time consuming, and expensive."

But McDaniel calls the suit "ridiculous" and says that as a taxpayer and homeowner, she is "entitled to know how my hard earned tax dollars are being spent." The state's Open Public Records Act does not put a limit on requests. And a New Jersey attorney who specializes in the area finds it "especially ludicrous" that the town views 75 requests over three years as burdensome. "That’s the equivalent of two a month," CJ Griffin tells NJ.com. "You could file two OPRA requests a month just for the meeting minutes, so it’s in no way harassing." What do the mayor and town say about all this? Not much. In fact, nobody seems to want to claim ownership of the suit.

Mayor Vauss says he is not behind the litigation. "I did not file the lawsuit against Elouise McDaniel," he tells NBC. "Harold Wiener is the plaintiff." But Wiener, who is Irvington's municipal clerk, says he didn't request the suit. "She does file a lot of OPRAs," he adds of McDaniel.

girl suffers seizure , cops know that. Still they put her in choke hold, push her about & slam her

When police and fire crews arrived, Michelle was still suffering from memory loss following her medical episode and she didn’t want anyone to touch her. Video shows a female officer eventually place Michelle in a chokehold and then taking her to the ground.

"She was walking around on the inside of the building and that’s when the two officers appeared, and she was trying to walk to the bathroom and that’s when the female officer grabbed her and put her hands around her neck. She pushed her into the cash register counter and into the wall three times, all while having her hand around her neck" said Michael Cummings.

He says they told the officer many times that she was a minor, and that she was having a seizure. Her father says he pleaded with the officers to let her gather her bearings. When Michelle came back into her right state of mind, she only knew what happened from the bruises left on her body and after watching the videos.

"She had bruises on her arm, and then there were bruises on the side of her face," said Michael Cummings.

Maine homeless didn't report filmed attack by teens (2 girls, 1 boy), Social media alerted cops

The Auburn Police Department in Maine said on Sunday that it had charged two girls, aged 14 and 16, as well as a 15-year-old boy who allegedly filmed the incident, who was charged with criminal conspiracy.

A video circulating on Facebook, seen by The Independent, showed two young women repeatedly kicking and punching a person sitting on the street, who screams while a man sitting next to them pleads with the girls to stop.

A voice, possibly from the person filming the video, is heard saying "kick this n***** too!", leading one of the girls to round on the man and attack him as well.

On Sunday the police department said it was investigating other, similar videos that had come to light after the arrests. It did not name the three children, citing their age.

Police said they had encountered two seemingly homeless people on Saturday who "appeared to have been assaulted" but did not want to talk about it. Later, the department began to receive calls and messages about the "disturbing video".

TFG brags about a hole in one because "many people are asking"

I expected the intro: the bespoke logo touting that it came from “The Office of Donald J. Trump” with a simplified version of the presidential seal in the middle. And I expected the title, since it’s always the same title: “Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America.”

And then poetry.

“Many people are asking, so I’ll give it to you now, it is 100% true,” the message began. “While playing with the legendary golfer, Ernie Els, winner of four Majors and approximately 72 other tournaments throughout the world, Gene Sauers, winner of the Senior U.S. Open, Ken Duke, and Mike Goodes, both excellent tour players, I made a hole-in-one.”

That’s what the message is about. Trump’s hole-in-one.

----------------

He continued.

“It took place at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on the 7th hole, which was playing 181-yards into a slight wind,” Trump said — before quickly upgrading the wind he faced. “I hit a 5-iron, which sailed magnificently into a rather strong wind, with approximately 5 feet of cut, whereupon it bounced twice and then went clank, into the hole. These great tour players noticed it before I did because their eyes are slightly better, but on that one hole only, their swings weren’t.”

“Anyway, there’s a lot of chatter about it, quite exciting, and people everywhere seem to be asking for the facts,” Trump’s statement continued. “Playing with that group of wonderful, talented players was a lot of fun. The match was Ernie and me (with no strokes) against Gene, Mike, and Ken. I won’t tell you who won because I am a very modest individual, and you will then say I was bragging—and I don’t like people who brag!”

Monitoring it for what? To do what? You're not even a resident of Pennsylvania, much less anyone with authority to DO anything about it.
This is just another disgusting attempt by you to get attention....from New Jersey.

“Monitoring the situation?” In what capacity? Are you any kind of government official?
