Missouri police officers indicted after video emerges of alleged assault on trans woman
Two Kansas City officers face charges after footage that appears to show womans head being slammed into sidewalk during arrest last year
Two Kansas City police officers face assault charges for allegedly slamming a transgender womans face into a concrete sidewalk during an arrest that was captured on video.
A grand jury in Missouri indicted Matthew Brummett, 37, and Charles Prichard, 47, on one misdemeanor charge each of fourth-degree assault related to the encounter, the Jackson county prosecutors office announced on Friday.
The video, recorded by a passerby outside a beauty supply store on 24 May last year, shows the officers kneeing the woman in the face, torso and ribs and forcing her arms over her head while handcuffed. The woman was black; the officers are white.

According to the affidavit, a man passing by in his vehicle during the arrest said he saw a police officer strike a woman with a closed fist. The woman ends up on the ground and the man used a cell phone to make a video of the incident. The phone video shows Ms. Hill on her stomach with Brummett and Prichard kneeling on top of her torso, ribs, and upper back. In contrast to the officers statements, Brummett slams Ms. Hills face two times on the concrete and then he drops his knee and a portion of his body weight on her neck/right shoulder area. The officers then complete the handcuffing. Prichard is then heard saying, [w]e tried to be easy and [y]ou made it this way. Ms. Hill can be heard moaning or crying in pain and asking for help immediately after this.
Moments later, according to the affidavit, someone approaches and is waived away by Brummett. While Ms. Hill is still laying on the sidewalk, Brummett steps on Ms. Hills right hip. Prichard picks up her handcuffed hands and pulls/presses them upward until they are in line with Ms. Hills head as she is prone on her stomach. The cell phone video footage shows no apparent movement from Ms. Hill prior to her arms being maneuvered in this way. Just before this, Prichard can be heard saying, [y]ou wanna push more. In response, Ms. Hill says, I didnt push nobody. Prichard responds by saying, [s]top it, Im tired of messin with you. In addition, Prichard, while pulling/pressing her arms upwards, says, [y]oure doing it now. Again, Ms. Hill can be heard moaning and crying in pain until she goes silent.
The woman has since died after being shot in October at a Kansas City home, and a man has been charged in her death. She went by various first names, including Brianna or Brionna, Bebe, and Briya. Her surname was Hill.

A Kansas City Police Department investigation determined the officers did nothing wrong, according to the police union. The Jackson county prosecutors office said it brought the case to a grand jury because police declined to provide prosecutors with a probable cause statement, which is normally submitted by a detective at the conclusion of an investigation.

What Trump is trying to achieve with 'Obamagate'
------------------------
Trump understands that he will never be a widely beloved public figure -- he is more like the long list of "heels" in professional wrestling who gain their fame by stirring the fans to boo them. Though his base does love him, many voters profoundly dislike what he stands for and how he conducts himself. As president, Trump has not had much success reversing that fundamental reality, and his approval ratings have consistently clocked in under 50%.
So, what's Trump to do? How do you win reelection with a raging pandemic and an economy in decline? The answer is to convince voters that your opponent is just as unlikable as you. That was the strategy Trump used in 2016 with Hillary Clinton. As candidate, Trump did everything possible to tear down her reputation, stoking allegations of wrongdoing surrounding her use of a private email server as the centerpiece of his narrative. The State Department ultimately found "no persuasive evidence of systemic, deliberate mishandling of classified information." Ultimately, Trump was more intent on discrediting Clinton than he was extending an olive branch to those who disagreed with him and working to expand his voter base.
Now, he is attempting to do the same with Joe Biden. The challenge won't be easy, given Biden's image as a decent public servant who has overcome immense personal challenges. So far, former Senate aide Tara Reade's sexual assault allegation against Biden does not seem to have dented his 2020 election standing. (Biden has denied the allegations by saying "it never, never happened." It also doesn't hurt that Biden has close ties with Obama, who continues to be a well-loved figure among the American public.
