Why you shouldn't believe Trump missed a guy chanting 'white power' in the video he shared
Analysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large

Updated 7:03 PM ET, Sun June 28, 2020---

---------------

Deleting the tweet and insisting that Trump didn't see the guy yelling "white power" allows the President to accomplish exactly what he wants: Push out a message of clear and blatant racism -- and then insist that he wasn't doing that and he, the self-described "least racist person you have ever met," is deeply offended by anyone suggesting otherwise.

To believe that, you have to willingly ignore everything Trump has said and done on race for, well, his entire adult life. When you consider the way Trump has treated race -- as a cudgel to be used when it serves his purposes -- it's simply impossible to conclude that he retweeted the video without knowing there was a guy chanting "white power" in it.

The opposite is in fact true; he retweeted at least in part because there was a guy chanting "white power" in it.

Bernie's student army: "with great rage towards the Democratic establishment, I will vote for Biden"

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/28/bernie-sanders-college-supporters-joe-biden-328353

Bernie’s student army learns to live with Biden
As coronavirus deaths mount and Donald Trump strikes a law-and-order pose, some of Sanders’ die-hard college supporters are begrudgingly coming around to the former veep.

As the Democratic primary drew to its conclusion, a flurry of Students for Bernie college organizations made clear where they stood: There was no way they could vote for Joe Biden. If Sanders wasn’t the nominee, they planned to either sit out the fall election or vote third party.

But as coronavirus deaths mount and Donald Trump strikes a law-and-order pose against the protests sweeping the nation, many of the leaders of those groups are rethinking their hardline position. And faced with a choice between a candidate they distrust due to his lack of progressive bona fides, or ushering in the second term of an incumbent they loathe, more than a few leftist college student leaders are learning to live with Biden.

“In recent weeks, it's become pretty clear that Trump is willing to crack down on free speech, and so it's definitely making me lean more toward Biden now,” said Harry Feldman, a Georgia Tech senior and co-chair of the school’s Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter, who was considering voting third party in Georgia.

Amira Chowdhury, the co-director of a left-wing University of Pennsylvania group that vowed in late March it “will never endorse, nor support Joe Biden,” has also come around on the former vice president. She attributed it to what she called Trump’s failure of leadership, bigotry, and racism in recent weeks and her role as a voter in a swing state that Trump captured by just over 44,000 votes in 2016.

“With a heavy heart, and with great anger and frustration, and with great rage towards the Democratic establishment, I will vote for Biden,” said Chowdhury, whose Penn for Bernie group is now known as Penn Justice Democrats.

Trump re-election strategy: Biden to do away with 'law and order', is insider, lacks mental capacity

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/27/trump-losing-2020-election-342326

Donald Trump knows he's losing.

The president has privately come to that grim realization in recent days, multiple people close to him told POLITICO, amid a mountain of bad polling and warnings from some of his staunchest allies that he's on course to be a one-term president.

----------------

People involved in the campaign say they have settled on two main avenues to go after the former vice president: That he’s beholden to liberals who want to do away with law and order, and that he’s a consummate Washington insider.

The campaign has begun a massive TV ad campaign going after the 77-year-old former vice president, including over his mental capacity and his nearly five-decade political career. Hoping to make inroads with African-American voters, Trump's campaign is running ads slamming Biden over his central role in the 1994 crime bill.

The commercials are airing in an array of states including Georgia, a traditionally red state where Trump suddenly finds himself in a fight. The cash-flush campaign is expected to remain on the TV airwaves in a host of key states through the election.

Phoenix Metrocenter, where "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" was filmed, closing permanently 6/30

https://www.abc15.com/entertainment/events/bill-and-ted-wish-metrocenter-mall-well-amid-closing

PHOENIX — The adventures of Phoenix's Metrocenter mall may be coming to an end soon, but it can't really end without some good wishes from the movie duo that made it famous -- at least here locally.

For those that have not heard, Metrocenter mall, which was once considered to be the largest mall in Arizona, will permanently close on June 30.

Aside from being home to stores, shops, and at one point an ice skating rink, the mall also served as one of the shooting locations for the 1989 cult classic, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Not familiar? Here's a quick-to-the-point synopsis from an anonymous user via IMDB:

Two seemingly dumb teens set off on a quest to prepare the ultimate historical presentation with the help of a time machine.
The film starred a young Keanu Reaves and Alex Winter.

Production actually took place at several locations around the Valley, including a Circle K in Tempe, Golfland-Sunplash in Mesa, Coronado High School in Scottsdale, and a bowling alley in Tempe. (In 2019, Phoenix New Times published a cover story celebrating the film's 30th anniversary that features interviews with some of the crew. )

GOP Texas Congressman Says He'll Refuse to Wear a Mask Until He Gets COVID

Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert, a Republican, has attended recent House sessions without using a face mask, despite guidance issued last week by a congressional physician requiring that masks be worn during any committee hearings.

"I don't have the coronavirus, turns out as of yesterday I've never had it," Gohmert said about his reasoning for not wearing a mask.

Gohmert, 66, was seen at the Capitol Friday by CNN chatting at a "close distance" with Georgia Congressman Barry Loudermilk, also a Republican.

The Texas lawmaker insisted that he is routinely tested for the virus, which has killed nearly 125,000 people in the U.S. since February, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Unless he does test positive for the virus one day, Gohmert said he will continue not wearing a mask.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/28/politics/trump-tweet-supporters-man-chants-white-power/index.html

President Donald Trump on Sunday widely shared a video he said is from the Villages, a retirement community in Florida, in which a man driving a golf cart with Trump campaign posters is seen chanting "white power."

The President retweeted the video that showed the community's Trump supporters and anti-Trump protesters arguing with one another. The President thanked the "great people" shown in the video.
"Thank you to the great people of The Villages. The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!" he wrote in the tweet.
CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.
