Did Trump unleash an economic miracle, or take credit for Obama's work?

These trends didn’t begin with Trump’s election. This is what the unemployment rate has looked like since 2012. If you can detect a sharp break between the Obama and Trump economies, you’ve got a keener eye than I do:

Looking at job growth yields a similar picture. Depending on which period you’re talking about, you can argue that job growth since Trump was elected has been a bit slower or a bit faster than in the years preceding him, but it’s all clearly within the same trend.

A new poll shows challenges facing repubs.. major achievements of Trump aren't very popular

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2018/08/23/a-new-poll-shows-5-big-challenges-facing-the-republicans-in-november/

Major achievements of the Trump administration aren’t very popular.

If the economy isn’t an issue that can help Republican candidates that much, then what issue can? The challenge for Republicans is that few Trump accomplishments are that popular.

In this poll, we asked about several policies closely identified with the Trump administration. In no case did a majority of registered voters support any of these policies:

More people opposed than supported the repeal of the individual mandate (46 percent oppose vs. 44 percent support), the Muslim ban (48 percent vs. 42 percent), the tax law (48 percent vs. 40 percent), tariffs on steel and aluminum (49 percent vs. 39 percent), and especially separating the families of immigrants arriving at the border (58 percent vs. 34 percent).

Moreover, even if views of the individual mandate are mixed, other aspects of the Affordable Care Act are much more popular. The GW politics poll asked about two provisions that provide “protections for people with preexisting health conditions.” Overall, 84 percent supported the “provision that prohibits health insurance companies from charging sick people more” and 86 percent supported the “provision that prohibits health insurance companies from denying coverage because of a person’s medical history.” Given that the Trump administration no longer supports the ACA’s protection for people with preexisting conditions, it risks alienating even more voters. Indeed, Democrats have already seized on this in the midterm campaign.

Texas man thought female drivers are 'incompetent' , sole purpose was the give birth to males

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dr-gridlock/wp/2018/08/25/a-man-thought-female-drivers-are-incompetent-so-he-shot-them-police-say/?utm_term=.1bf2e769f77e

Nicholas Dagostino hated female drivers, authorities say, so much so that he shot them while they were driving.

Police in Texas linked Dagostino to two recent shootings in which women said they were shot in the arm. Both incidents happened in broad daylight, within a few miles of each other in the Katy area of Harris County, west of Houston. And both involved a suspect — Dagostino — who claimed he shot the women in self-defense, according to criminal complaints.

But social media ramblings indicate that Dagostino “held a very dim view of women,” believed female drivers are “incompetent,” and that their sole purpose “is to give birth to male children,” investigators wrote in court documents.

Dagostino, 29, is facing two felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The most recent shooting happened on July 10, at a carwash in Katy. The victim told police that she was pulling into the carwash when she heard a noise and saw that her driver’s-side window was cracked. She assumed it had been hit by a rock, but she later saw blood dripping down her arm, court records say.

rump reportedly won't comment on McCain while he's still alive, and repeatedly says he should step down from his Senate seat

President Donald Trump reportedly won't comment on ailing Sen. John McCain while he's still alive, according to White House officials.

The Washington Post reported after McCain's announcement he would be stopping treatment for brain cancer, administration officials were given no direction to comment.

This is the latest icy moment in the two leaders' ongoing tense relationship.

President Donald Trump's fraught relationship with Senator John McCain will continue in the face of the senator's declining health, as Trump refuses to comment on McCain while he's still alive, according to White House officials.

McCain's family announced Friday that he would stop receiving medical treatment for his brain cancer, which prompted an outpouring of support to his family from all sides of the political spectrum.

But Trump has been notably silent on McCain amid the news, and White House officials told The Washington Post that Trump does not want to comment before McCain dies.

The tension showed no signs of softening even through McCain's diagnosis of brain cancer last summer. Indeed, it has grown harsher throughout the past year, culminating in July with McCain's vehement condemnation of Trump's behavior at a Helsinki meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin, which McCain called "one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory."

A former senior administration official told The Post that Trump was often upset McCain appeared as the "good guy" in the public eye while he was painted as the "bad guy." Publicly, Trump has begun ignoring McCain completely.

After the tapes were released, Karen Pence viewed Trump as 'reprehensible — just totally vile' and the Pences reportedly refused to take his phone calls
The book also reveals how Karen Pence underwent a fertility treatment called GIFT, not accepted by many Catholic authorities

As President Trump faces increasingly intense scrutiny and calls for his impeachment, one man is patiently waiting in the wings to take over: Vice President Pence.

The presidency is a dream Mike Pence has embraced since high school and he's been willing to wait and see the hand of God at work in his elevation to the White House should Trump be impeached.

Pence came to believe that the way to his lifelong goal of the Oval Office was to tie his fate to Donald Trump even though he represented everything Christianity abhorred.

During Pence's first year as vice president, he had one public assignment: admiring Donald Trump.

One hates Trump. The other loves him. Two West Virginians wait for the president to come to town.

Both Black, 60, and Cochran, 54, voted for Barack Obama in 2008. Since then their politics have diverged radically.

Black falls asleep most nights watching liberal commentator Rachel Maddow on MSNBC and calls Trump a “con man.”

“He’s only in it for himself,” Black said.

Cochran said he has supported Trump from the moment he rolled down the golden escalator and announced his candidacy in New York City. He said he falls asleep each night feeling safer knowing that Trump is defending the country from foreign enemies such as North Korea and Iran.

---------

When it came to Trump or most national issues, they jousted, like cable-news combatants eased into armchairs.

But on the issues they could influence, the ones that mattered most in their lives, the two were in harmony. Cochran hated the Affordable Care Act and Black backed it. Now, their bodies failing, both men support universal health care.

“I’ll give a little more out of my paycheck for everyone to be covered,” Black had said in an earlier discussion with Cochran.

“Me too,” Cochran had agreed. “We pay more every year to be told no.”

Back at the rally, the crowd was still cheering. The bus drivers had moved on.
