First Kansas, Next Michigan and Beyond as Abortion Ballot Measures Spread

First Kansas, Next Michigan and Beyond as Abortion Ballot Measures Spread
Democrats are hoping ballot measures on abortion rights will drive up voter turnout. They’re looking to Michigan as a test run.

-----

But many abortion rights advocates already are looking past November to 2024, considering possible ballot measures in Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa and, money and political muscle permitted, the presidential battlegrounds of Florida and Arizona.

Such measures would be designed to secure policy changes in states where Republican legislatures are in opposition. But they also could have political ramifications not seen since Republicans successfully used ballot initiatives on gay marriage to energize Christian conservatives during President George W. Bush’s re-election run in 2004.

Republicans may also revive that playbook, particularly in battlegrounds with active anti-abortion groups. But, for now, Democrats appear most eager to push the issue amid early signs that abortion is motivating their voters.

Polls show that a majority of Americans overall — and a slightly larger share of women — disapprove of the court’s decision. A Pew Research poll in July found that 57 percent of adults disapproved of the decision, 43 percent of them strongly. A Marquette Law School poll later that month found that approval ratings for the Supreme Court itself were on a steep downward slide, to 38 percent from 44 percent in May.

Jessica Tarlov Drops Unfavorable Polling Data For MAGA on Fox News, Sean Duffy Cries 'Fake Polling'

https://www.mediaite.com/tv/jessica-tarlov-drops-unfavorable-polling-data-for-maga-on-fox-news-sean-duffy-cries-fake-polling/

Co-host of The Five, Jessica Tarlov, brought some polling data into a conversation on President Joe Biden’s recent speech calling out what he sees as extremism in the MAGA base, eliciting an accusation of “fake polling” from a guest host who didn’t like the numbers.

--------

“In terms of the strategy, though, I thought was interesting, Reuters has a new poll out that says 58% of Americans think that the Make America Great Again movement is threatening our democratic foundations, and that includes 25% of Republicans,” Tarlov noted.

“So if you look at the numbers of Republicans that Joe Biden needs to pick off, 25% would be just fine. You can win like that with all of your Democrats and with independents, the left-leaning ones and a lot of the right-leaning ones who do not see the world like you do, Sean,” Tarlvo continued before being cut off.

“Fake news, fake polling,” interrupted guest host Sean Duffy.

“Is that a real,” she responded, “Sean be a serious person here to say if you don’t like something it is not ‘fake news,’ polls are real. I’ve done polling in my life and,” Tarlov shot back before Perino cut her off.

Michigan GOP worst nightmate..abortion and voting rights will be on ballot in November

https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/supreme-court-clears-abortion-early-voting-proposals-michigan-ballot

Michigan voters will weigh separate constitutional amendments to guarantee abortion rights and allow early voting, after the Michigan Supreme Court ruled Thursday that both measures belong on the Nov. 8 ballot.

The rulings come one week after a deadlock on the bipartisan Board of State Canvassers blocked both initiatives. Two Republicans on the four-member board voted against the proposals, saying they had multiple defects.

Owner of older model Prius . Catalytic converter stolen 4 times this year..same car

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-09-07/catalytic-converter-theft-toyota-prius-old

‘Like a sitting duck’: The catalytic converter theft spree is hitting old Toyota Priuses

Nam Trinh knew something was wrong one morning in October when she turned on her 2008 Toyota Prius and heard a throaty roar, like a plane taking off.

Trinh had her wedge-shaped car repaired. But she heard the telltale growl again in January while she was in Sacramento. And again in February, in the parking garage of a Las Vegas casino. And again in March, at home in Los Angeles.

“By the fourth time, I was numb,” said Trinh, who works for a hospitality technology company and lives in Eagle Rock. “I had no emotions left. I was like, ‘Well, this is just how life is now. I guess my catalytic converter is going to be stolen every month.’”

---------

The second-generation Prius, sold from 2004 to 2009, has become a prime target for catalytic converter theft in California. The car’s shoebox-sized anti-pollution device contains trace amounts of precious metals and can fetch several hundred dollars from scrap yards and recyclers.

_________

Prius drivers grinding through the costly, time-consuming chore of replacing a catalytic converter say they’re frustrated that little has been done to stem the problem. Police don’t treat the issue as a priority, they said, and laws aimed at hobbling the black market trade in the devices haven’t helped.

“The Prius Owners’ Union needs to form and storm Sacramento,” Prius owner Michael Graff-Weisner, said half-jokingly. “We need our voices to be heard.”

Graff-Weisner’s gray 2006 Prius, which he parks on the street in West L.A., has had its converter stolen three times since 2019.
