We should have known what we were getting into the minute the unthinkable happened on election night 2016. As a business mogul, Trump had tax lawyers and bankruptcy lawyers. He had lawyers defending him against contractors claiming they hadn’t been paid, Trump University students claiming they hadn’t been educated, and women claiming all manner of sexual misconduct.
Trump investigations, litigation gather steam
Turns out that was all just a warmup for the main event. As a result of his former lawyer's plea deal with federal prosecutors, Trump is now implicated in at least one crime, felony violation of campaign finance laws in paying off porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal to keep quiet about sexual affairs with him.
And we're now at the point where, as many have noted, pretty much everything Trump is under investigation by one or more legal authorities — his business, his foundation, his campaign, his inauguration, his presidency, his family and Trump himself. As of Saturday, we can add Trump’s golf club in New Jersey — now being investigated by special counsel Robert Mueller, the FBI and the state on federal immigration crimes, according to the New York Daily News.

Today, Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN, with partner law firm Winston & Strawn, filed a lawsuit on behalf of two HIV-positive members of the United States Air Force who were given discharge orders just days before the holiday season. Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN filed the lawsuit, Roe and Voe v. Mattis, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
As detailed in a Washington Post exclusive, the case was filed anonymously to protect the plaintiffs’ medical privacy. The plaintiffs received notification just days before Thanksgiving, denying their discharge appeals despite compliance with fitness assessments and medical treatment, as well as strong support from commanding officers. Nevertheless, the plaintiffs were found “unfit for continued military service.”
“It’s disgusting that the Trump administration is sending some men and women in uniform home for the holidays without jobs simply because of their HIV status,” said Scott Schoettes, Counsel and HIV Project Director at Lambda Legal. “These decisions should be based on science, not stigma. Lambda Legal is suing to stop these separations and will not stop fighting until President Trump understands that there’s not a job in the world a person living with HIV cannot safely perform, including the job of soldier.”
The lawsuit challenges the Pentagon’s discriminatory deployment policies, which prevent servicemembers living with HIV from deploying outside the United States without a waiver. For years, these policies have restricted the opportunities of servicemembers with HIV. Now these same deployment restrictions are being used to justify separating servicemembers solely based on HIV status.
The “Deploy or Get Out” policy, unveiled by the Trump administration in February 2018, directs the Pentagon to identify servicemembers who cannot be deployed to military posts outside of the United States for more than 12 consecutive months and to separate them from military service. Since current U.S. military policy identifies servicemembers living with HIV as non-deployable, they face immediate discharge under this Trump policy.

Star high school wrestler Bronson Harmon lost his athletic scholarship to attend California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) after he was caught on video holding up pro-President Trump signs and screaming an anti-gay slur at a political rally.
The 18-year-old showed up to counter-protest a June 30 “Keep Families Together” rally in Modesto, Calif. with his father, in response to President Trump’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy that separated thousands of migrant children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, the San Luis Obispo Tribune News reported this week.
Activist Abdul Lasaing recorded a heated exchanges between Harmon and anti-Trump protesters attending the event.
“I heard a group of men shouting and trying to scare us by saying #sendthemback and even yelled at someone ‘n****r’,” recounted Lansing.
Lansing added: “I was so choked so I automatically pulled out my phone to record and see who was being so disrespectful.”
“Fu-k you, fa-got,” Harmon yells, while giving the camera the middle finger.
Harmon’s father, Todd, was with him at the protest and can be heard yelling “send their asses back.”
The video posted to Facebook and has been viewed more than 48,000 times as of Friday.
Todd Harmon told reporters that Cal Poly had revoked his son’s athletic scholarship.
The school’s communications specialist, Cynthia Lambert, confirmed that Harmon will no longer be on the school’s wrestling team.

MCMINNVILLE, OR (KPTV) - A Willamina woman was arrested Friday night in connection to a possible intimidation crime caught on camera in McMinnville.
Amber Rocco, 39, was arrested just before 8 p.m. and is facing two counts of intimidation in the first degree, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of menacing and two counts of harassment.
Officers with the McMinnville Police Department arrested Rocco after they say she was caught on camera with a knife yelling racial slurs during a confrontation.
The charge of intimidation is considered a hate crime in Oregon.
Officers say they were called out to a parking lot in the 600 block of Northeast Highway 99W at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 to reports of a disturbance involving people in two vehicles. When officers arrived, those people were no longer at the scene.
Two days later, police talked to Emora Roberson, the woman who captured video of the incident.

Tucker Carlson’s nightly show on Fox News has been hemorrhaging advertisers since the conservative host said that immigration makes the United States "poorer and dirtier and more divided” on Dec. 13, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Whereas Tucker Carlson Tonight routinely had some 40 corporate ads prior to his comment, the average has since been some 28 nightly -- plummeting to a low of 21 Wednesday evening. Tucker Carlson Tonight has also gone from five ad breaks to four “and has leaned far more heavily on so-called house ads that promote Fox News programming and Fox Broadcasting Company scripted television shows,” The Hollywood Reporter notes. “Carlson's show now regularly includes as many as seven such ‘house’ ads, which help fill lost spots, along with public service announcements,” the outlet also said. A Fox News spokesperson reportedly said that shows usually have lighter ads “during the holiday period between Christmas and the first few weeks of the New Year. Ad loads pick up toward the end of the month.”

Gov. Paul LePage certified the election results for Maine's 2nd Congressional District after a recount and legal battle dragged out the final result in the race for almost two months, cementing a Democratic victory.
But, LePage -- a Republican firebrand -- made one last jab at the drawn-out process when certifying the election, writing the words "stolen election" next to his signature.
November's congressional election in Maine marked the first time in US history the ranked-choice voting system determined the outcome of a congressional race. The new state law mandates ranked-choice tabulation be applied in any federal race in which no candidate receives a majority of the vote.
Democratic Rep-elect Jared Golden was projected by CNN as the winner of the election in Maine's second district with 50.6% of the vote, and his opponent, Rep. Bruce Poliquin, received 49.4% of the vote.
