Boiling water challenge sends at least 8 people to hospital during polar vortex...

https://www.wsbtv.com/news/national/hot-topics/boiling-water-challenge-sends-at-least-8-people-to-hospital-during-polar-vortex/917666936

Have you seen videos of people throwing boiling water into the air to watch it freeze instantly? It’s the latest viral challenge, and it’s sending people to the hospital.

Within the last view weeks, parts of the United States have been affected by the polar vortex, which occurs when circulating winds from the northern pole travel southward and cause below freezing temperatures.

To test just how cold the weather has been, folks have been tossing boiling water into the sky to turn it into tiny ice crystals.

It really does not freeze, it vaporizes. The water has to be very close to boiling, such that when thrown into the air, the pressure of the water above it disappears and it all flashes into water vapor. The temperature has to be really low, so that the humidity is very low.

You are a Dumbass if you throw it over yourself, and deserve what happens to anyone throwing boiling water onto themselves gets. The heat from the water has to go somewhere, let it be the air 10 feet away from you, not your body.

Source: CNBC

New York's police department is demanding that Google remove all DWI checkpoint information from Waze.
It says the navigation app helps impaired and intoxicated drivers evade checkpoints.

The Twin Cities can now forget about snow on Sunday/Mon.

I just finished replacing the carburetor on my snow blower with a newer cleaned one. The engine fired right up. So now with a working snow blower to save my aching back, the snow band will now move north or south. Bad news for Duluth or Rochester, but the storm should now miss the Twin Cities.

I have news for you McCarthy, YOU are not the party of Lincoln.

Steve King is a piece of shit, but he belongs to your party. Republicans split with Lincoln 80 years ago.

And the $4.5 thousand a foot wall (assuming for a second that the $5.7 billion could actually build it) is wasted money. It is not the weakest link in our security. Let's talk about spending money where it might do some good rather than on a temper tantrum from the orange BLOTUS.

Great tits are killing birds and eating their brains. Climate change may be to blame.

Every year, little black-and-white birds called pied flycatchers make the lengthy trek from sub-saharan Africa to northern Europe to feast on caterpillars, claim a nest, and have babies. This typically goes off without a hitch, and the birds return to Africa a few months later, offspring in tow. But recently, some flycatchers have arrived to find their nesting sites occupied by haughty, territorial great tits. And those birds don’t just chase flycatchers away—they brutally attack them, kill them, and eat their brains.
Article Continues Below:

The reason for such grisly bird murders might be due to a shift in migration and nesting timelines for both birds, according to a new study published Thursday in Current Biology. While great tits typically breed two weeks earlier than pied flycatchers, their breeding periods now occasionally overlap due to climate change-related factors, the authors say.

Great tits live in European forests like the Dwingelderveld and Drents Friese Wold forests in the Netherlands, where the study took place, all year round. Flycatchers, on the other hand, are merely regular vacationers. Since the 1980s, flycatcher breeding season has been inching up earlier in the month of April. Warm spring temperatures have caused caterpillar populations to boom sooner in the month, so flycatchers adapted to that and started arriving a bit earlier, too. That wouldn’t be too big a problem for flycatchers, except that great tit breeding periods are also in flux. Now, when tits delay their breeding period a little bit in colder Aprils, they overlap with the flycatchers, and violence ensues.

Should the State of the Union Address be considered "under oath"?

We have never had a president that lies constantly like Trump does. His fucking tweets, I can see those being considered informal, so not under oath. But the SOTU Address is the most formal communication the President delivers. Should there not be consequences for lying in this speech?

Woman can't hear men with deep voices due to rare condition

https://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Woman-can-t-hear-men-with-deep-voices-due-to-rare-13526385.php

A woman in China is making headlines for a rare type of temporary hearing condition that makes her unable to hear low frequencies, such as men's voices. According to the Daily Mail, the patient, only identified as Ms. Chen, woke up one morning and couldn't hear her boyfriend speak.

Chen went straight to Qianpu Hospital, where she was seen by an ear, nose and throat specialist. Dr. Lin Xiaoqing, who treated Chen, told reporters, "She was able to hear me when I spoke to her, but when a young male patient walked in, she couldn't hear him at all."

The night before, Chen felt nausea and suffered from a ringing in her ears. She was also under a lot of stress, working late and not getting enough sleep. Chen thought little of it and went to sleep as usual before waking up with the condition.

https://pilotonline.com/news/nation-world/north-carolina/article_ae69a6e6-1410-11e9-a739-1ba7407c4ddb.html

Police in North Carolina say two women sexually assaulted a transgender woman at a Raleigh bar.

News outlets report 38-year-old Amber Harrell and 31-year-old Jessica Fowler are charged with second-degree kidnapping and sexual battery. Both were released on a $50,000 and a $30,000 bond respectively.

Another source says the two women exposed themselves to and were touching the transgender woman in the bathroom, after locking her in. They then followed her to the bar and continued to harass her while she dialed 911.
