The GOP is making the Star Wars seem more and more realistic

Of course, seeing how the GOP adopted a Yoda quote to be the foundational principle of their party and their movement...

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

A prime example of how the anti-American right-wing propaganda machine manipulates people

I saw this headline at the FOX "news" website

DOJ indicts former Trump adviser Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/doj-indicts-former-trump-adviser-peter-navarro-contempt-of-congress

Now the accurate headline is a grand jury indicted Trump's former adviser. Saying the DOJ indicted them may seem like a minor difference. However, they are invested in keeping their followers angry and afraid. So rather than getting indicted by a jury of his peers, they claimed he was targeted by Biden's justice department. That way their cult following will feel like Biden is using the DOJ as a weapon against his political enemies (like Trump did with Barr and Durham). So instead of feeling like Trump's mad did bad and was being punished they falsely spin him as the victim.

The Southern Baptist report exposes some canards about causes of clergy abuse

The report on sexual abuse by ministers of the Southern Baptist Convention, or SBC, and the failure of the denomination's leaders to respond with Christlike concern for the victims, makes comparison with the travails of the Catholic Church all too easy to draw.

"Our investigation revealed that, for many years, a few senior [Executive Committee] leaders, along with outside counsel, largely controlled the EC's response to these reports of abuse... and were singularly focused on avoiding liability for the SBC," the report stated.

"In service of this goal, survivors and others who reported abuse were ignored, disbelieved, or met with the constant refrain that the SBC could take no action due to its polity regarding church autonomy — even if it meant that convicted molesters continued in ministry with no notice or warning to their current church or congregation," it said.

Sound familiar? For years, reporters here at NCR and other outlets have detailed similar stonewalling by officials in the Catholic Church.

There were, however, significant differences between the SBC sexual abuse crisis and that afflicting the Catholic Church, and those differences require some who have tried to exploit the sexual abuse crisis for ideological ends to rethink their arguments.
