No. I will not meet you halfway. You must change.

Dear Trump supporter,

Let’s make a deal. I will not accuse you of being evil as Satan or stupid as a bag of rocks if you show you are capable of learning from the experience of the past 4 years. President-Elect Biden is going out of his way to embrace you and offer you a pathway to humanity. I am not feeling so generous. Here’s what I am willing to do:

You cannot support Nazis.
...
You cannot support people who objectify or molest women.
...
You cannot support crazy people owning a veritable arsenal of military-grade weapons.
...
You cannot demand that government should dictate all reproductive decisions in the name of “pro life”.
...
You cannot support people who oppose science.
...

I could go on and on, but let’s just leave it there. I cannot meet you halfway if you insist on a position of ignorance or intolerance. If that’s the only way you can live, then we are going to have hard times ahead. I sincerely hope that you can learn something by what has transpired over the past 4 years and find a way to make the basic changes in your approach to living in a civilized society. You must change. I hope you do. I will welcome you, fully understanding that we probably won’t agree on everything. But nothing can happen until you commit to moving from the intractable positions you have locked yourself into. You must do that. I cannot do it for you and there is no “halfway” where we can meet.

More at link expanding on each of the bullet points in bold. Worth a quick read.

Amidst the current discussions of unity, forgiveness, etc., etc., etc., this is how I feel.

Lincoln Project: We're fighting for a better America. A Biden era would be a good start.

Last December, we launched The Lincoln Project with a clear mission: Defeat Donald Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box. Today tens of millions of Americans are making their voices heard. We believe they will repudiate this president and his core beliefs.

Those of us who formed The Lincoln Project had spent much of our professional lives working to elect Republicans. Many in our former tribe have expressed anger and disbelief that we would turn against our own party to take on a sitting president.

In our minds, there was never any other option.

The party we once called home exists now as a corrupted shell of its former self, informed by neither principle nor philosophy. It is a political Chernobyl — radioactive and dangerous but with a still unknown half-life.

...

What does a Joe Biden victory this week mean? First, it means a return to competence facing the two biggest challenges of our moment: COVID-19 and the economy. On both, Biden will likely return to the technocratic doctrine of radical competence, and that’s just fine. Ideologues left and right will decry it too little or too much, but the new president’s first, second and 10th job is to manage this virus and reset this economy.

Don't know what the future holds but I'm really glad we were on the same side as these guys for this particular fight.

Our Niche-Market President

Trump doesn't realize this, but he's good at selling to a niche market. His tasteless, more-is-more "luxury" brand has always alienated much of the public -- and delighted many other people. Trump wants to be adored, so he's spent his life trying to give the people who love what he does more of what they love, even though it's extremely offputting to the rest of us.

In business, and in entertainment (which was Trump's second career), there's nothing wrong with this approach. If you want to be rap stars and you're, say, the Insane Clown Posse, it's perfectly rational to compensate for your limited rap talents by using gimmicky iconography (clown makeup) and creating a mythology (fans are ''Juggalos''). The result is that most rap fans despise the Insane Clown Posse, but the superfans regard themselves as a community, and even hold an annual festival called the Gathering of the Juggalos. The fan base for Trump's businesses has never been quite that loyal, but Trump's deplorables are much like ICP's Juggalos.

This can work if you're selling products -- intensely loyal fans might just buy more and more of what you're selling. But it doesn't work in politics, because every voter gets only one vote. [emphasis mine]

"Trump beat the virus because he's a strongman" is a narrative his fervent supporters love. They have brand loyalty. Alas for him, there probably aren't enough of them to reelect him.

Everyone seems to understand this but tRump and his "juggalos". Trump is - and always has been - a one trick pony. Now he is desperate, raging and lashing out because his schtick is no longer working. What a pathetic, weak little man. It will be a glorious day when he, his sycophants and his demon spawn are cast out.

Everything Still Sucks, But at Least the Worst People Alive Are Getting COVID

Well, that was one helluva weekend, waiting to see whether or not karma was really gonna take this Murderously Incompetent Fascist Idiot problem off our hands, wasn’t it? Probably the best thing about being Shower Cap right now is that I don’t have to pretend I’m not cheerleading for Hairplug Himmler’s demise. Folks, every single time a Nazi dies, it’s a good thing, because there’s one less Nazi in the world.

Team Treasonweasel went straight to work doing the one thing they do best: destroying their own credibility. The expected obfuscating press conference from Donnie Dotard’s doctors (and this Conley guy is a regular Sarah Slanders in a lab coat) provided a comforting facsimile of our regular White House gaslighting sessions, but the addition of a sweaty, panicked Mark Meadows, screaming OFF THE RECORD THE SKY IS FALLING was inspired.

...

I mean, I wouldn’t have imagined it was possible if I hadn’t seen it with my own two weary eyes, but the demented motherfucker managed to turn a HOSPITAL STAY into a platform to spread disinformation that will lead to even more suffering and death. I will never again doubt that there will always be new depths of evil to discover within this man.

But he really believes all of this will be perceived as “strength,” that a terrified America will simply have no choice in the end but to rush to him, and cling, childlike, to the legs of his ridiculous balloon pants. One of Donald Trump’s biggest political liabilities is that he believes everyone else is as emotionally broken as he is.
