Japanese mafia boss conspired to traffic nuclear materials, says US

Source: BBC News

US prosecutors have charged an alleged member of the Japanese mafia with conspiring to traffic nuclear materials.

Takeshi Ebisawa, 60, tried to sell uranium and plutonium that he believed would be transferred to Iran to build a nuclear bomb, it is alleged.

SNIP...

In February 2020, Mr Ebisawa allegedly contacted the DEA agent about selling nuclear materials. According to US prosecutors, he explained via encrypted communications that uranium is "not good for your health".

In September that year, Mr Ebisawa allegedly emailed the undercover DEA agent a letter bearing the name of a mining company. He offered to sell 50 tonnes of uranium and thorium for $6.85m (£5.4m).

You are most welcome! I wish the nation's press weren't a corpse.

This really is the most important story ever.

And yet, the New York Times has it on page 16.

REVERSE-BIAS: How the FBI protected Donald Trump

Remember when FBI SA Johnathan Buma investigated both Hunter Biden and Rudy Giuliani when Dimdonnie wanted to frame innocent private American citizens? Guess who the FBI bosses lifted more than a finger to investigate? The author of the op-ed below suggests where Gym Jordan and his Congressional colleagues will find evidence of a weaponized DoJ.

REVERSE-BIAS: How the FBI protected Donald Trump

by JASON MICIAK
Washington Press, August 19, 2023

Excerpt…

But when Buma would discuss Giuliani’s activities and possible crimes, he was shut down and shut out. (Giuliani said, “Of course, I did” when asked if he urged Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.)

This all happened in 2019 under President Trump, then-Attorney General Bill Barr, and the current FBI Director, Christopher Wray.

This may be one of the few exceptions when it seems that an entire department did have one intention, to protect Donald Trump — and thereby protect itself.

So Buma was theoretically the perfect person to testify to Jim Jordan’s “weaponization of government” committee, where Buma said he would act as a whistleblower about the FBI’s constant pursuit of Trump and its pro-Biden stance.

Snip…

As described in The New Yorker report:

“The Republicans, however, were in no rush to publicize what Buma had to say—perhaps because his account ran against their preferred story line. Buma said that, during the Trump Administration, Bureau officials hardly covered up for the Bidens: his fellow-agents jumped on any new scrap of information about Hunter’s foreign business dealings, even though the resulting investigation never produced evidence of illegal corruption.”

“Instead, in Buma’s telling, agency leaders had moved repeatedly to squash his investigation of possible Russian and Ukrainian ties to Giuliani. Not only did the Trump Administration Attorney General William Barr appear to shut down an active investigation of Giuliani in 2020; Buma has charged that, even under the Biden Administration, agency overseers seemed determined to silence some of the most important sources feeding his Giuliani reporting.”

Air Putins

Trump says what happens in Putin meeting is 'none of your business'

Trump smiles like a serf for Putin

As the World Burns, All Roads Lead to Putin

Find me a conflict zone, and I’ll find you a Kremlin operative with a blowtorch.

Taken together, the momentous events of the past month — the Russian “scorched earth” tactics in Ukraine, the Azeri offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh, the abominable Hamas terrorist attack in Israel, and, yes, the GOP dysfunction in Congress that has hamstrung the U.S. government at this critical moment — represent “an existential threat to the post-Westphalian world order,” as former British diplomat Arthur Snell characterized the war in Ukraine.

SNIP…

As president, Trump allowed Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Kislyak, high-level Kremlin officials, access to the Oval Office. He joked around with them. And he shared with them top secret intelligence from Israel, regarding Iran. For all we know, the piece of intelligence Trump gave the Russians that day was subsequently shared with the Iranians, who gave it to Hamas, which used it in planning its attacks on Israel over the weekend.

SNIP…

The Kremlin contagion has only spread. Republicans in Congress seek to obstruct, to weaken, to starve funds for aid to Ukraine, to leave vacant ambassadorships and key military appointments.

I don’t know if “Putin pays” the likes of Sens. Rand Paul (R-KY), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Ron Johnson (R-WI), and Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA); or if Moscow has enough kompromat on them to pull their marionette strings; or if they are just dumb fascists who sincerely hate democracy and have a hard-on for weirdo strongmen; but, by behaving the way they are, they are actively helping the Kremlin.

SNIP…

Curious, is it not, that tensions escalated in Ukraine, and Armenia/Azerbaijan, and Israel/Palestine right after McCarthy was ousted, during an interregnum where the speaker’s chair is vacant, and Congress therefore cannot function? The primary reason the Republicans tried to shut down the government, remember, is that they objected to sending aid to Ukraine. Gee, I wonder who benefits from that?

“I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job," Trump said, according to The Times. "I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off.”

"I'm not under investigation," he added.

They all laughed.

Biden says GOP making 'big mistake' on Ukraine aid, willing to meet with Johnson

SELINA WANG, JUSTIN GOMEZ and ALEXANDRA HUTZLER
ABC News, Mon, February 19, 2024

President Joe Biden, in the wake of the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, said congressional Republicans are "making a big mistake" by not passing additional aid to Ukraine.

Biden, returning to the White House on Monday, was asked by a reporter if he'd go so far as to say House Republicans had Navalny's "blood on their hands" amid their opposition to funding for the war-torn nation as Russia's invasion enters its third year.

"No, I wouldn't use that term," the president responded. "They're making a big mistake not responding."

Biden continued, "Look, the way they're walking away from the threat of Russia, the way they're walking away from NATO, the way they're walking away from leaving our obligations, it's just shocking ... I've never seen anything like this."
