Ol' Big Money is behind the Big Lie:

Background:

“The Mercers laid the groundwork for the Trump revolution," Bannon told The New Yorker in 2017. "Irrefutably, when you look at donors during the past four years, they have had the single biggest impact of anybody, including the Kochs." Steve Schmidt, a former Republican strategist and co-founder of the anti-Trump Lincoln Project, sees it differently. Rebekah Mercer, he said in an interview with Salon, is the "chief financier or one of the chief financiers of the fascist movement, and that's what it is."

The antidote — Truth.

How do we counter “the big lie?” That can only be done by “the big truth,” that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election and that Donald Trump lost, endlessly repeated by as many sources as possible. Most Republican leaders in Congress have stated publicly that Biden won. Almost all Republican members of Congress and all but a small handful of Trump loyalists admit privately that Biden won. Now if they would only say that publicly.

Important stuff that’s becoming lost to history...

Time of Useful Consciousness explains monetized mass propaganda and its impact - now more than a century in action...

Alex Carey said that the people of the US have been subjected to an unparalleled, expensive, 3/4 century long propaganda effort designed to expand corporate rights by undermining democracy and destroying the unions. Carey’s unique view of US history goes back to World War I and ends with the Reagan era.

For the ownership class, as long as the rich get richer, they don’t care if democracy vanishes down the Memory Hole. That’s the Plan. Truth is our best weapon.

Henry Kissinger on democracy in Chile...

“I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves.”

So Nixon and Henry ordered CIA director Helms to overthrow President Allende. Gee. That sounds exactly like how the GOP oligarchs feel about democracy in the USA today!

Macroeconomic Consequences of the Infrastructure and Budget Reconciliation Plans

Moody’s Analytics, 21 JULY, 2021
Prepared by Mark Zandi, Chief Economist
Bernard Yaros Jr., Assistant Director

INTRODUCTION

Federal lawmakers are feverishly working on another massive fiscal plan, including a nearly $600 billion bipartisan infrastructure deal and a $3.5 trillion package of spending and tax breaks to support a range of social investments that the Biden administration and congressional Democrats hope to pass into law via the budget reconciliation process. While this work is
very much in progress, it is similar in spirit and size to the Build Back Better agenda President Biden proposed earlier this year. If this is close to where the legislation ultimately lands, it
will strengthen long-term economic growth, the benefits of which would mostly accrue to lower- and middle-income Americans. The legislation is more-or-less paid for on a dynamic basis through higher taxes on multinational corporations and the well-to-do and a range of other pay-fors. Worries that the plan will ignite undesirably high inflation and an overheating economy are overdone. The fiscal support it provides is only sufficient to push the economy back to full employment from the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Because the package includes a myriad of spending and tax initiatives, some of which are new and uncertain, implementing this legislation as intended and in a timely way will take deft governance. In this white paper, we assess the macroeconomic impact of both the bipartisan infrastructure deal and the reconciliation package.

Thing’d directly boost GDP over 1% per annum…that’s about $200 billion per annum — plus the multipliers from increased productivity, reduced carbon emissions, etc etc etc.

Every penny of that $3.5 trillion will be returned many times over.

Look how the Apollo Program changed the world by going to the moon.

These engineers work on Telstar 1, a pioneering global communication satellite.

“Build Back Better” is an investment in Uncle Sam, the United States of America, We the People.

Unlike the conservatives who oppose it with no plan today and nothing to show for 40-years of Trickle-Down, this investment would create trillions in real value. It is a plan of action for building a better future. Spread over a decade, the money would be returned untold times in sustainability, infrastructure, and quality of life.

That describes the situation.

Uncle Sam used to play referee. Now the ref hops off the same bus as brought the red team.

Civil Rights Attorney Jim Freeman Explores How the Ultra-Rich Profit from Racial Injustice in New Book

The author of “Rich Thanks to Racism” says that while not all of the country’s ultra-wealthy are necessarily conscious of their complicity in upholding systems of inequity and oppression, it is happening nonetheless.

by Detroit Today | April 6, 2021

Over the last year, our nation’s issues regarding socioeconomic and racial inequity have been laid bare in all their stark dysfunction, and there’s been a lot of discussion around the role of the ultra-wealthy in the perpetuation of these systems.

“There may not be a more significant racial justice issue than the massive over-investment in the criminalization of people of color.” —Jim Freeman, Author of “Rich Thanks to Racism: How the Ultra-Wealthy Profit from Racial Injustice”

Jim Freeman, one of the country’s leading civil rights lawyers, says that while not all of the country’s ultra-rich are necessarily conscious of their complicity in upholding systems of inequity and oppression, it is happening nonetheless.

131 federal judges failed to recuse themselves from cases in which they had financial interest

131 federal judges failed to recuse themselves from cases in which they had financial interest: report

BY MONIQUE BEALS
The Hill (from WSJ)- 09/28/21

One hundred and thirty-one federal judges oversaw court cases involving companies in which they or their family members owned stock, according to a new investigation.

Those judges violated U.S. law and judicial ethics as they failed to recuse themselves from a total of 685 court cases in which they may have had a conflict of interest, an investigation by The Wall Street Journal found.

In those cases, about two-thirds of the rulings were in favor of the financial interests of the judge, the Journal reported.

After the Journal notified the judges of its findings, 56 of them began to alert parties involved in 329 of the lawsuits of their conflict of interest.

Tom Cotton's Slave-Owning Ancestors

A nice blogger explains…

Tom Cotton's Slave-Owning Ancestors

Tom Cotton's family owned slaves

Esha, Historic.ly, Jul 27, 2020

Tom Cotton feels very strongly that 1619 project should not be used to teach kids.He has sponsored a bill that cuts funding to using the 1619 project to teach kids. Is an ulterior motive for Tom Cotton to not want anyone to learn the truth about slavery?

If we dig into records of slave ownership, we can see that Tom Cotton’s family owned slaves.

Snip…

In 1741, the earliest relative John Cotton died. In his will, he bequeathed enslaved persons to his children. He had at least 5 enslaved people!

As daughter sought state license, Noem summoned agency head

Ethics officials are questioning whether South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem had a conflict of interest by meeting with her daughter and top state officials last year in the governor's office while her daughter was pursuing a real estate certification

By AP
Monday, Sep 27, 2021 11:00

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Just days after a South Dakota agency moved to deny her daughter's application to become a certified real estate appraiser, Gov. Kristi Noem summoned to her office the state employee who ran the agency, the woman's direct supervisor and the state labor secretary.

Noem's daughter attended too.

Kassidy Peters, then 26, ultimately obtained the certification in November 2020, four months after the meeting at her mother's office. A week after that, the labor secretary called the agency head, Sherry Bren, to demand her retirement, according to an age discrimination complaint Bren filed against the department. Bren, 70, ultimately left her job this past March after the state paid her $200,000 to withdraw the complaint.

Snip…

Still, government ethics experts who reviewed the series of events at the AP's request said Noem's decision to include her daughter in the meeting created a conflict of interest regardless of what was discussed.

Americans who relied most on Trump for COVID-19 news among least likely to be vaccinated

Info worth sharing…

Americans who relied most on Trump for COVID-19 news among least likely to be vaccinated

BY MARK JURKOWITZ AND AMY MITCHELL
Pew Research, September 23, 2021

Americans who relied most on former President Donald Trump and the White House coronavirus task force for COVID-19 news in the early days of the pandemic are now among those least likely to have been vaccinated against the virus, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

In late April 2020, as part of the Center’s American News Pathways Project, respondents were asked to name the source they relied on most for pandemic news. At that point, it had been more than a month since the World Health Organization had declared the coronavirus outbreak to be a pandemic, businesses and schools in the United States were closing their doors, and the nation was approaching the 1 million mark in number of confirmed cases as the sweeping impact of the pandemic was becoming clearer.

Over a year later, at the end of August 2021, the Center asked U.S. adults about their vaccination status. Of the 10,348 respondents who took the August survey, 6,686 had also taken the April 2020 survey. Looking at the group who took both surveys reveals distinct differences in vaccination rates based on where people turned most for COVID-19 news.

Those who cited Trump and his task force and those who cited personal and community networks as their favored COVID-19 news sources are far less likely than those who relied on other source types to have received at least one shot of the vaccine. Roughly six-in-ten (59%) of those who relied most on Trump say they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 38% say they have not received a vaccine.
