Michigan shooter

Is it just me, or is this white young man who murdered at least 4 of his fellow students and teachers, becoming a figure of sympathy because of his parents? Just noticing the portrayal in various media which seems to be following the "S/he is just a kid, it's not their fault, blame the Parents" narrative.

And yes, i do believe his parents were negligent at best, abusive in some way at worst.

Please remember to wear masks, no matter what.

I don't post often, but I wanted to remind myself (and others, if they would be so forbearing), to wears masks, not matter what.

Although i am fully vaxxed (second jab in june, was eagerly anticipating getting a booster in January), I got a case of breakthrough covid. I'm pretty sure I got it at work. I work at a non profit that has a small paid staff and tons of volunteers. Unfortunately, one of the volunteers had covid, I had some interaction with them and during a couple of the interactions, forgot to wear my mask. I developed what i thought was a bad sinus infection that turned into an ear and throat infection. I went and got tested after my supervisor told me about this volunteer testing positive for covid. I believe at the time of our interactions, the person was asymptomatic, but they did mention not feeling 100%, but had to get some stuff done. As far as I know, the person is also fully vaxxed.

I am a bit freaked out because of having exposed family to covid during thanksgiving. I didn't start feeling bad until thanksgiving friday,
and even then, passed it off as a bit of a chill, since the thanksgiving dinner the day before was mostly outside on a covered deck in cool and somewhat rainy weather. By sunday night, temp had gone up to 101, and i started to feel really bad. Got tested Thursday, got results yesterday, and here we are. I did let everyone i had been in contact with over the holiday know my results. Fortunately at this time, everyone i have been around is well and not showing any symptoms.

Masks do work. So does the vaccine; I am at home recovering, not taking up a valuable hospital bed that's needed for someone in more dire straits than I am. Wear the mask, get the vaccine and booster as soon as you can.

Thank you, DU'ers, for being here.

Hunkered down near Houston.

Texas. Wind is kicking up, rain/sleet coming down, snow expected by midnight. Plants covered, created outdoor kitty house from rubbermaid container for the ferals, checked the other spaces around the yard where they sleep. Indoor kitties curled up in their favorite spots. Get to stay home for a couple of days because of the weather. Stay safe, warm and healthy everyone!

Thank you for the hearts.

After the valentines breakfast mishaps, they really make me smile.

Beginning to look at applying for ACA

Just a quick question. SO got laid off, so we will be losing health coverage. Looking to apply to Obamacare, but when i typed it into the search, plenty of websites popped up. Should we start at healthcare.gov (official site?) or healthcare.org (maybe also official gov site, but not sure)? I also know that thanks to Biden and Harris, it will be opening up again on 2/15. Thank you for any help, it is appreciated.

Have some on DU braved rwnj forums to see how they are spinning this...

...terrorist action at the capitol today? I apologize if something similar has already been posted. I was feeling ill and slept for a lot of the day, came to check out DU as I often do, and saw the posts of what was happening. Hope to whatever deities are out there that these terrorists face the consequences of their actions. One good thing seems to have come out it, though: it scared the objecting senators and congress critters shitless and they appear to be dropping their theatrical, nonsensical objections to certification of the electoral college vote.

Just finished watching

Kamala and Joe's speeches (although i missed some of Kamala's). Wow. They brought tears to my eyes. Hope. When Biden bent down to Kamala's daughter, it made me think of all those images of Obama and children. Kindness. Empathy. Determination. Humaness. Adult.
A President and VP who won't embarass us on the world stage.
I have been in a good mood since my husband told me at breakfast this morning that they were the president elect and vp elect. Their speeches tonight have given me hope.

We did our civic duty

And voted yesterday. We got there just after the polls opened, and there was actually a line! We are in a county that is half urban/suburban, half rural. In all the years we have lived here, this is the first time there has been a line for early voting. There were a few young first time voters. Everyone wore masks, and social distanced. Still, even with the line, we were done in about 30 minutes. We did our part to fire trump.

Driving home from work on Friday, I saw this on a vehicle that passed me: "Love Putin and Russia? Hate America and Americans? Vote Republican!" Too bad i was driving, i would have snapped a pic.
