Jan 6th was 'Legitimate Political Discourse' -- This TRASH Republican party! Unfuckingreal.

G.O.P. Declares Jan. 6 Attack ‘Legitimate Political Discourse’

The Republican National Committee voted to censure Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for participating in the inquiry into the deadly riot at the Capitol.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/04/us/politics/republicans-jan-6-cheney-censure.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur

We've learned that Trump...
* fully intended to "overturn" the 2020 election
* wanted to seize voting machines
* wants to pardon 1/6 rioters and cop beaters

The Republican National Committee's response? To punish the only two Republicans who think this has no place in their party-- they censored Cheney and Kinzinger.

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE.

Or maybe it is all too believable for this party of traitors.

It Gets Real For Trump In Georgia As His Lawyers Meet With Prosecutors About Criminal Election Inter

Source: Rachel Maddow/MSNBC via Politics USA

Rachel Maddow reported that the criminal investigation into Trump’s election interference in Georgia now has his lawyers meeting with prosecutors.

https://twitter.com/PoliticusSarah/status/1480918191589232642

"We do actually have some breaking news to start with at this hour. We can report exclusively tonight that attorneys for former president Donald Trump have now met in person with the Fulton County district attorney’s office in Georgia. Now it was months ago that we first learned that the prosecutor who leads that office had opened a criminal investigation into alleged violation of Georgia state law that occurred when election officials of Georgia were pressured and intimidated after the last presidential election that they should, effectively, falsified the results of that states election.

It was a year ago, January 3rd, last year, when The Washington Post published this shocking audio reporting of an extraordinary hour-long phone call that then-president Trump made personally to Georgia’s top elections officials telling him that he needed to find exactly the number of votes in the state that would allow Trump to falsely be declared the winner there.

Now, in Georgia, as in every state in the country, pressuring election officials to interfere with the lawful administration of an election, pressuring election officials to change election results, that of course is a crime. The state prosecutor’s office in Fulton County, Georgia, opened that investigation under Georgia state law. Pressuring or intimidating election officials is a Georgia state crime. It’s a crime in every state in the country, and of course, it’s also a federal crime."

This is often the last step before prosecutors seek an indictment - giving the target’s lawyers a chance to present evidence & argument as to why the target should not be indicted. Looks like Georgia MIGHT be the 1st out of the blocks to indict Trump. But they won’t be the last.

The GOP and climate denying trolls are emboldened on twitter

#FJBiden was also trending on twitter.

Senate wraps for the year, punting Build Back Better, voting rights

Source: MSN

The Senate adjourned for the year early Saturday morning after a marathon of votes that lasted throughout the day Friday, into a rare all-night session and threatened to drag into next week without an agreement.

The Senate will now return to Washington on Jan. 3, absent seconds-long, constitutionally mandated sessions over the holidays where no votes will occur and only one senator will be present.

As part of the deal, the Senate confirmed roughly 50 nominees during the lengthy session that started on Friday and wrapped in the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning, including long-stalled ambassadors and several district court judges.

But leaving for the holidays officially punts both President Biden's climate and social spending legislation and voting rights legislation, which would require a change in the Senate rules, into next year.

I really hope they come back with some fire in January because a lot of people are super frustrated with this Dem congress right now.

Some good details in the full piece, some hope at least.

The Omicron surge

A lot of the docs and epidemiologists I follow on twitter are very worried about Omicron, particularly that we aren't taking it seriously enough and that we are headed for a big surge. A lot of people seem relieved that it seems to cause less severe disease, which is understandable.

The problem is it's way more transmissible than even delta, and so even if it causes less disease, if it infects more people, it has the potential to cause even more severe cases than delta.

Three Republican Residents of The Villages Arrested for Casting Multiple 2020 Votes

Source: Daily Beast

Three Republican residents of the hedonistic Florida retirement haven The Villages have been charged with casting multiple votes in the 2020 presidential election, according to local reports. Click Orlando identified the three as Jay Ketcik, 63, Joan Halstead, 71, and John Rider, 61. Each of them have reportedly been charged with casting more than one ballot in the election—a crime that could land them in prison for as long as five years. Ketcik allegedly voted by mail in Florida while also casting an absentee ballot in Michigan; Halstead is accused of voting in-person in Florida and as an absentee in New York; and Rider allegedly voted in Florida and an unspecified out-of-state location. Ketcik and Halstead reportedly turned themselves in to police, while Rider is said to have been arrested at a Royal Caribbean cruise-ship terminal in Port Canaveral. Click Orlando states that it’s not known who the trio voted for, but all three are reportedly registered as Republicans in Florida, and Facebook pages that seem to belong to Ketcik and Halstead show posts supporting Donald Trump.

If Merrick Garland Doesn't Charge Trump and His Coup Plotters, Our Democracy Is Toast

https://www.thedailybeast.com/if-merrick-garland-doesnt-charge-trump-and-his-coup-plotters-our-democracy-is-toast

The Department of Justice announced this week that it would crack down on airline passengers who throw tantrums. Now, if Attorney General Merrick Garland would only get around to doing something about people who plot the overthrow of our government and a former president who’s serially obstructed justice and abused power we might be getting someplace.

Not that in-flight safety isn’t important. It is. Just like it’s important to arrest and prosecute the moron Trumpist foot soldiers who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. All that is important. But it is not enough.

President Joe Biden may get everything else right but if his administration—starting with the Department of Justice—gets wrong its response to the threats to our democracy posed by Trump and the GOP, nothing else they do may matter.

A widely respected jurist, Garland was picked by Biden to depoliticize the DOJ and end the abuses of its power we saw under Trump appointees Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr. Certainly, he has made some strides in that direction. But if the result of his de-politicization is tiptoeing around the egregious serial wrongdoing of the leaders of the Republican Party, then his efforts will have exactly the opposite of the intended effect. By failing to hold Trump and Co. accountable, Garland will set the stage for them to continue unabated their efforts to turn the U.S. into a one-party state in which only Republicans can win elections and any tactics they may use to hold on to power will have been effectively validated by the inaction of Garland and his DOJ.

South African doctor who raised alarm about omicron variant says symptoms are 'unusual but mild'

Source: Telegraph UK

The first South African doctor to alert the authorities about patients with the omicron variant has told The Telegraph the symptoms of the new variant are unusual but mild.

Dr Angelique Coetze said she was first alerted to the possibility of a new variant when patients in her busy private practice in the capital Pretoria started to come in earlier this month with Covid-19 symptoms that didn’t make immediate sense.

They included young people of different backgrounds and ethnicities with intense fatigue and a six-year-old child with a very high pulse rate, she said. None suffered from a loss of taste or smell.

"Their symptoms were so different and so mild from those I had treated before,” said Dr Coetze, a GP for 33 years who chairs South Africa’s Medical Association alongside running her practice.
