NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Lee says his administration has begun working with the transition team of Democratic President-elect Joe Biden.
Lee’s remarks Friday marked the first time the governor has acknowledged that Biden will be the next president.
Lee told reporters that he had spoken with members of Biden’s transition team the previous day about Tennessee’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The governor was among many Republicans nationwide who refused to acknowledge that Biden had won, as President Donald Trump continuously repeated unfounded claims of election fraud.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick will not accept President Trump’s award of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, he announced in a statement Monday. The statement, first announced by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, comes after media reports on Sunday that Trump had invited the six-time Super Bowl winner to the White House to receive the nation’s highest civilian honor. “The tragic events of last week occurred and the decision has been made not to move forward with the award,” Belichick wrote in the statement. The coach and the president are longtime friends, with the former writing a congratulatory note to the latter after his 2016 election. Belichick’s public break with Trump comes on the heels of several companies freezing the president out after he helped incite a riot in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

TAMPA, Fla. — Adam Johnson, the man seen carrying the lectern of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the U.S. Capitol riot, was released from jail Monday.
Johnson, 36, of Parrish, Florida, for his release signed a $25,000 signature bond, which he does not have to pay unless he fails to show up at his next court appearance.

Judge Christopher Tuite ordered Johnson to surrender his passport, submit to substance abuse tests, surrender all firearms and wear a tracking device. Under the terms of his release, he would not be allowed to travel outside the Middle District of Florida, unless it's to Washington, D.C., for court cases.
Johnson also would have a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
