(CNN)A man was arrested Sunday after leading troopers on a high-speed chase with his dog sitting in the driver's seat, a spokeswoman for the Washington State Patrol said.

The man from Lakewood, Washington, hit two cars on separate occasions and failed to stop both times, leading state troopers on a high-speed chase up Interstate 5, the spokeswoman said. No major injuries were reported in either crash.

"He was driving very erratically. So erratically that multiple people called 911," trooper Heather Axtman told CNN.

House Democrats eye ambitious fourth coronavirus bill

[link:https://us.cnn.com/2020/03/30/politics/dems-eye-fourth-covid-bill/index.html|

Also included, per article, is to give more direct payments to individuals. YA THINK???? I'd love to see Congress critters live on $1,200, with no immediate hope of more income! 🤬🤬🤬

Pass "significantly more" money for state and local governments, as well as additional funding for hospitals and nursing homes.
Ensure coronavirus treatments, and not just testing, will be free.

Provide for protective equipment needs, such as masks and gloves.

Require an emergency Occupational Safety and Health Administration standard to protect health care workers and other at-risk workers, such as TSA employees, first responders, and grocery store employees.

Much more at link. Of course, now that repukes have their $2T+ slush fund, they don't think another stimulus package is needed! 🤬

Illinois governor says feds sent wrong type of protective medical masks

[link:https://us.cnn.com/2020/03/30/politics/illinois-governor-wrong-masks-ppe/index.html|

Pritzker, a Democrat, said at a news conference that the White House told him the state would receive 300,000 N95 masks from the federal government.

The N95 respirator mask is what doctors wear when treating individuals infected with a virus.
Instead, what Illinois received were surgical masks, which are not considered respiratory protection by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and are not totally effective in preventing coronavirus transmission.

Yet unlike the other projects, Samaritan’s Purse has asked all volunteers working at the field hospital — including health workers — to pledge to 11 declarations, Gothamist reports, including one that defines marriage as “exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female” and another that says “human life is sacred from conception to its natural end.”

Mindfulness during the coronavirus: Harvard professor's tips to help lower anxiety

[link:https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/wellness/story/mindfulness|

So, I think the first thing we all need to remember is anxiety is appropriate right now,” said Dr. Luana Marques on the podcast. “So the idea that anxiety has an inverse relationship with performance...Up to a point, the more anxious you get, the more performance you have. There is a point, a tilting point, though, that too much anxiety affects anything that we're doing. So we can't think critically. We get stuck. We start to get more anxious.”

By understanding that you’re experiencing fear, you can recognize the situation for what it is and where you're adding your own personal anxieties.

“I recommend [for those facing extra anxiety], run outside. Or [be careful at] the gym, but any kind of exercise. I mean, a brisk walk. It's something that any of us can do,” said Dr. Marques. “Be creative. Do jumping jacks at home.… Exercise brings down anxiety and does it fast.”

“The kind of meditation that we're focused on, mindfulness meditation, I like to think of it as a kind of a two-step process,” explained Dr. Michaelson. “The first is to, kind of, calm down and center the mind enough to do the second step, which is to just see what's going on and to just co-exist with what's going on.”

Coronavirus: Start-ups use Zoom app to lay off staff

[link:https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-52091615|

Tech start-ups worldwide are cutting jobs as the coronavirus pandemic undermines their ability to make money.

To make matters worse for staff, they are not being told face to face.

Electric scooter-maker Bird axed about 400 posts on Friday, about 30% of its staff. And the Californian company used a Zoom conference call to tell them.

Zoom can connect up to 1,000 users on a single call - but many of the workers were unable to log on and found out via messages from colleagues posted online.

[link:https://www.npr.org/2020/03/30/823767492/amazon-instacart-grocery-delivery-workers-strike-for-coronavirus-protection-and-|

The workers are asking for a variety of changes:

Workers from both Amazon and Instacart want more access to paid sick time off. At this time, it's available only to those who have tested positive for the coronavirus or get placed on mandatory self-quarantine.
Amazon workers want their warehouse to be closed for a longer cleaning, with guaranteed pay.

Instacart's grocery delivery gig workers are asking for disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer and better pay to offset the risk they are taking.

It was unclear how many Instacart gig workers participated in Monday's action and refused to work. A spokeswoman for the company said it has seen "absolutely no impact to Instacart's operations." She said in the last week, 250,000 new people signed up to work through the app and a fifth of them have already started picking up gigs.
