Ivan Pavlov, lawyer for Navalny is arrested in Moscow.

https://twitter.com/rex_irby/status/1388255509397053441

NY TIMES:
SNIP
Mr. Pavlov, one of Russia’s best-known human rights lawyers, has frequently represented high-profile defendants in cases involving the F.S.B., a successor to the K.G.B. that wields enormous influence in Russia. His arrest shook Russia’s activist community because lawyers have, for the most part, been able to continue to operate even as the authorities have intensified their crackdown on the opposition.

“Ivan’s arrest is connected to his professional activity,” a group of lawyers said in an open letter Friday. “We believe that these actions by law enforcement are aimed exclusively at scaring Ivan and his colleagues in order to force them to reject an active position in defending their clients.”

Bill Browder:
Ivan Pavlov, lawyer for Navalny is arrested in Moscow. This is exactly what they did to us. After going after me & all my colleagues when we exposed the government’s $230m fraud, they went after all our lawyers which lead to the murder of Sergei Magnitsky

Magnitsky Act of 2012
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnitsky_Act

When the wall fell, the iron curtain did not.
The Cold War just went underground.

And, the government simply became a organized crime unit.

This would be the US, had Trump remained in Office.

Magnitsky Act needs to enacted globally.

"How bad is bitcoin for the environment really?"

How bad is bitcoin for the environment really?

Cryptocurrency now uses nearly as much electricity as Argentina but analysts claim technology will soon be mostly powered by renewable energy

Bitcoin mining devours the same amount of energy as countries like Argentina and the Netherlands

SNIP
The computing power required to support bitcoin's underlying network now requires nearly as much energy as the entire country of Argentina, leading to criticism about its environmental footprint.

Analysis by the University of Cambridge suggests the bitcoin network uses more than 121 terawatt-hours (TWh) annually, which would rank it in the top 30 electricity consumers worldwide if it were a country.

Concerns about bitcoin's energy demands have been around since the very beginning, with crypto pioneer Hal Finney tweeting about potential future CO2 emissions on 27 January 2009 – just two weeks after receiving the first ever bitcoin transaction from the cryptocurrency's pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto.

"Bitcoin's energy consumption has more than quadrupled since the beginning of its last peak in 2017 and it is set to get worse because energy inefficiency is built into bitcoin's DNA," Charles Hoskinson, CEO of leading cryptography firm IOHK, tells The Independent.

"Bitcoin's carbon footprint will get exponentially worse because the more its price rises, the more competition there is for the currency and thus the more energy it consumes."

"Five Defendants Arrested in Shooting of Lady Gaga's Dog Walker and Dognapping of Two French Bulldogs"

https://lawandcrime.com/crime/five-defendants-arrested-in-shooting-of-lady-gagas-dog-walker-and-dognapping-of-two-french-bulldogs/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Five people were arrested Thursday in the shooting of singer Lady Gaga‘s dog walker Ryan Fischer and in the related dognapping of the singer’s two French Bulldogs, Koji and Gustav.
That’s according to a news release by the Los Angeles Police Department.

James Jackson (age 18), Jaylin White (age 19), and Lafayette Whaley (age 27) are all accused of attempted murder and robbery. Harold White (age 40) and Jennifer McBride (age 50) are both accused of being accessories to attempted murder.

The investigation revealed that James Jackson, Jaylin White, and Lafayette Whaley were involved in the robbery and shooting of the victim,” the police news release said. “Detectives do not believe the suspects were targeting the victim because of the dogs’ owner.
However, evidence suggests the suspects knew the great value of the breed of dogs and was the motivation for the robbery.”

Russian authorities suspend operations of Navalny's offices

Source: Associated Press

Russian authorities on Monday ordered the offices of imprisoned opposition leader Alexei Navalny to halt their activities pending what would be a landmark court ruling on whether they should be outlawed as an extremist group.

The injunction from the Moscow prosecutor’s office was another step in a sweeping crackdown on Navalny, President Vladimir Putin’s fiercest critic, and his organizations. The prosecutor’s office petitioned a court this month to label Navalny’s Foundation for Fighting Corruption and network of regional offices as extremist groups.

It is a major challenge for Navalny’s embattled team, with its leader in prison and dozens of its members under arrest, targeted for raids by law enforcement, or facing criminal charges. Such a label would outlaw their activities and expose members and supporters to lengthy prison terms, according to human rights advocates.

“Tens of thousands of peaceful activists and the staff of Alexei Navalny’s organizations are in grave danger -– if their organizations are deemed ‘extremist,’ they will be at imminent risk of criminal prosecution,” said Natalia Zviagina, Amnesty International’s Moscow Office Director, in a statement on April 17. She called the possible move “one of the most serious blows for the rights to freedom of expression and association in Russia’s post-Soviet history.”

This is Russian Govt.

One cannot read what Putin is doing here & not see the glaring threat to our own Democracy in our current time. Anyone normalizing, speaking on behalf of or promoting Putin's govt, is NOT protecting our Democracy.

This story is a foreboding of what has already began to shift within our country, via foreign & domestic threats.

*This:

"The prosecutors also asked a Moscow court to restrict the activities of the foundation by banning it from spreading information in the media, taking part in elections, using banks or organizing public events, according to Ivan Pavlov, a lawyer representing the Foundation. The ruling on the motion is expected later on Monday."
