I'm giving up for the night. Been posting news updates for hours.

Old newspaper reporter instincts kicked in and I felt compelled to keep DU updated. I hope the info was helpful for you all.

I profoundly hope nothing else evil happens tonight.

I wish they would find a way to muzzle this traitorous president and keep him out of trouble between now and January 20.

Dozens of curfew-related arrests made in DC as police reinforcements flood into city

WASHINGTON (WJLA) – There have been more than 52 arrests Wednesday night, D.C. police say, as authorities patrol the city in the wake of a breach of the U.S. Capitol building.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, 47 of those arrests are curfew related. The other arrests include weapons and ammunition charges.

Mayor Muriel Bowser put a 6 p.m. curfew in place after the unrest at the Capitol.

Washington Post: D.C. police removed crowds after Capitol police were overwhelmed

D.C. police removed crowds after Capitol police were overwhelmed, according to people familiar with the response
By Peter Hermann and Carol D. Leonnig

After the first group of protesters breached the Capitol on Wednesday, D.C. Metropolitan Police took over handling the removal of crowds from the U.S. Capitol grounds, according to two people familiar with the response.

Two District officials familiar with the deployment said D.C. police Inspector Robert Glover, who heads the special event branch in the department’s Homeland Security Bureau, took over coordinating the response from various agencies and directing staff and resources to execute the plan for their removal.

The Capitol police officers, overwhelmed by the crowds who broke into the Capitol building, took responsibility for leading lawmakers to safety and ejecting the relatively small groups of protesters who had gotten inside, the two people said. Once those protesters were forced outside, D.C. police oversaw their removal from the external stairs, porticos and balconies of the Capitol.

Very few people who breached the Capitol were arrested, and one law enforcement official said the reason was simply limited manpower. Officers didn’t have enough backup to take the time to arrest and detain those who had broken in to what lawmakers Wednesday called “The People’s House.”

CNN: 3 people died from medical emergencies near Capitol grounds during riots

3 people died from medical emergencies near Capitol grounds during riots

From CNN's Adrienne Winston

DC Police Chief Robert Contee announced this evening that three people died from medical emergencies during today’s insurrection at the Capitol.

Contee did not specify if these people were involved in any way with the overtaking of the Capitol building.

“One adult female and two adult males appear to have suffered from separate medical emergencies, which resulted in their deaths. Any loss of life in the District is tragic and our thoughts are with anyone impacted by their loss," he said.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical services transported people to area hospitals with injuries ranging from cardiac arrest to multiple fractures after falling from scaffolding on the West front of the Capitol building. However, city officials did not say whether any of these people are the ones now deceased.

CNN: Pelosi's office damaged during Capitol riot

Pelosi's office damaged during Capitol riot

From CNN's Manu Raju

Pro-Trump rioters -- who overtook the Capitol Wednesday and stormed past police barricades -- took the nameplate from above the door to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office.

Aides also said the rioters shattered a big mirror in her office.

CNN reported earlier that a photo from inside her office suite shows a folder with the words "we will not back down" written on it.

The folder was found after rioters stormed the US Capitol as members of Congress were meeting to certify President-elect Joe Biden's Electoral College win.

It also appears that the Office of the Senate Parliamentarian was ransacked during today's violence.

CNN: US Secret Service bringing in every available agent to White House and Naval Observatory

US Secret Service bringing in every available agent to White House and Naval Observatory

From CNN's Betsy Klein

The US Secret Service is significantly ramping up coverage and bringing additional agents from the region to the White House, Naval Observatory, and USSS headquarters after today’s unrest, a source familiar with the situation said.

A USSS official also told CNN that Secret Service was the first federal agency deployed when the US Capitol Police asked for assistance from local and federal law enforcement.

The agents on detail for Vice President Mike Pence and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were present today and worked in their roles focused on securing their protectees, but when Capitol Police put out the call for assistance, USSS sent additional uniformed division and special agents to Capitol Hill to assist. They were subsequently joined by other law enforcement agencies, the official said.

Here's what I think: someone, Pence, cabinet member, needs to call in a physician

to examine Trump ASAP, like tonight.

If he needs sedation, administer sedation. If he needs to be hospitalized, take him to Walter Reed for observation. And let Pence be acting president at least until a decision can be made about what to do between now and the 20th, . Impeach, invoke 25th, whatever.

DC mayor extends public emergency for 15 days in response to Capitol riots

DC mayor extends public emergency for 15 days in response to Capitol riots

From CNN's Adrienne Winston

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announced she is extending the public emergency to 15 days, as a result of rioters overtaking the US Capitol building earlier today. This will take the emergency declaration until the day after President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.

The mayor says that the people who stormed the Capitol, “sought to disrupt the Congressional proceedings relating to the acceptance of electoral college votes.”

“Persons are dissatisfied with judicial rulings and the findings of State Boards of Elections, and some persons can be expected to continue their violent protests through the inauguration.”

FBI, Homeland Security, White House Advisers Foresaw Possible Riots, Looked the Other Way

Newsweek
By William M. Arkin On 1/6/21 at 9:15 PM EST

They knew it could happen. They feared that Donald Trump would pull a "Samson," bringing down the whole house on top of him in the two weeks before he left the White House. Officials from the FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the District of Columbia government, the Pentagon, the National Guard, and the Joint Task Force–National Capital Region who spoke to Newsweek last weekend on condition of anonymity, all talked about the potential for protesters and militias and paramilitary goons—egged on by the president—to storm Capitol Hill and even the Capitol building itself.

A half-dozen sources spoke openly about this very scenario: that the mob would take over the "People's House" and that somehow the system would break down. They speculated that this could occur because of the president's treasonous behavior, because of leadership deficiencies in the federal government and Congress, because of the extreme partisanship of the moment, and because everyone was looking the wrong way.

The blame was spread around, with the FBI dismissing the Department of Homeland Security as a bunch of amateurs and thugs; the military shaking their heads about President Trump and an absent White House leadership; Homeland Security department members mocking the District of Columbia's mayor, Attorney General, and police; and everyone making clear that "the problem" was someone else's.

It was clear that the very law enforcement and security people who in theory were responsible for maintaining order in our capital city weren't ready, weren't well led, weren't organized properly, and weren't impartial.
