About Me

Thank you Democratic Underground for keeping me sane for the last four years. I think I was probably the longest lurker here. I started following DU during the Dubya administration. I was first attracted to the "Top Ten Conservative Idiots of the Week." I've been following along ever since. I always felt guilty for not participating, but refrained from doing so because I already spend way too much time online. However, after recent events, I just can't sit back any longer. I had to log on and thank you folks for all that you do. I'm a retired TV newscast director with forty years experience and more than eighteen thousand broadcasts under my belt, most of them live. I now travel the country (when I can) shooting landscape, astro and wildlife photography. You can see some of my photos at Ross-Kestin.Pixels.com or on Instagram at @oldguywithacamera. Thanks again! For Peggy and AndyS

I shot these today at Point Vicente Lighthouse, where we stopped last summer.

(I edited this to add the shots of the blimp).

A trip to Malibu Lagoon State Beach

I went to Malibu today to photograph the resident osprey. Unfortunately, the cranky old bird wasn't cooperating. I did get to see a few other beauties though.

Thanks to all who sent me a heart. I am flattered, and I am thankful that I have made so many friends in my brief time here.

A black phoebe surveys the scene from an old weathered tree stump.

A killdeer searches the shoreline for a tidbit. Thanks to fargone for the bird ID.

Egrets always produce the best reflections.

Out my back window!

My wife and I recently changed our rooms around, and I have a new office for my photography efforts. I also inherited the hummingbird feeder that she hung out the back window. Stay tuned for more. This was shot with a Canon SX40 HS Bridge camera.

One more river shot!

I was looking at my Facebook memories this morning, and up popped this image of "Tower Falls" in Yellowstone NP. This was taken on the same trip as my other photo "Yellowstone River."

This was shot with a Point n' Shoot Canon SX20HS bridge camera in 2011.
