Monsoons make deserts bloom in the US Southwest, but climate change is making these summer rainfalls

Monsoons make deserts bloom in the US Southwest, but climate change is making these summer rainfalls more extreme and erratic

If you’ve never lived in or visited the U.S. Southwest, you might picture it as a desert that is always hot and dry. But this region experiences a monsoon in the late summer that produces thunderstorms and severe weather, much like India’s famous summer deluges.

And this year, it generated a lot of rain.

July 2021 was the wettest month since record keeping started at the Tucson, Arizona, airport in 1895, with 8.06 inches (205 millimeters) of rainfall – equivalent to 70% of what the city receives in an average year. This year’s monsoon is the third-wettest ever in Tucson, with 12.80 inches (325 millimeters) of rain.

It was completely the opposite in 2020: Tucson had a dry “non-soon”, with less than 2 inches of rain. These conditions and record high temperatures fueled Arizona’s largest wildfire season in a decade, including the Bighorn Fire, which decimated over 60% of the forest in the Catalina Mountains north of Tucson.

With our drought and our now erratic, feast-or-famine monsoons, our water supply is on life support.

It is time we in Arizona start really looking for solutions. I have one. It will take reworking the 1922 Colorado Protocol completely.

My opponent only wants tax cuts for Big Ag, but the rest of us knows Big Ag dies without water. It's the Big Business "Locust" Mentality; pillage until there is nothing left, then pillage another area.

The CBP has declared war on immigrants and visa holders, especially Chinese

The Chinese embassy in Washington has protested to the US over the deportation of a Chinese student, accusing law enforcement officers of “wantonly” interrogating him.

The embassy said a Chinese student had been interrogated for more than two days and deported by US law enforcement at Houston Airport.

“After being confined in a small room for more than 50 hours without proper food and rest, he was deported by the US side through a third country on trumped-up grounds. The US action seriously infringed upon the legitimate rights and interests of the student, and caused serious physical and mental damage to him and his family,” the embassy said.

They did this to my wife in February and she was trying to rejoin her American husband. She has stronger ties to the US than students with an NIV.

I am completely terrified when she comes here again with her IR1. BTW, SEATAC CBP did the same thing with my wife for over the same amount of time.

BTW, all incoming freshman go through required required military training in China. They did at every school I worked at. The fact that these ignorant CBP official think Chinese students are in the military. . .unbelievable how these pathetic people are.

Fellow Teachers. a question from a 16 year veteran

Have you ever noticed, as PTC time, the parents you don't need to take to always come, but the parents you need to speak to never make their presence known?

BTW, it's the same everywhere. It was the same in Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, and China (where I've taught for many years).

Update on my Wife's Green Card: My wife demanded I restart my campaign for AZ House

She told me that I need to continue working to get into the Arizona House. Her words, translate from Chinese to English:

"This is more important than me and I believe you would be good for everyone. We will be together there soon enough. Don't give up something you believe in."

As a result, I am un-suspending my campaign. I have my wife's blessing to continue.

Because of that, I posted a new post on my campaign website. I have decided to take the gloves off completely and go on the attack as much as possible against my Republican opponent (for now as redistricting will happen soon) Joel John and the entire Republican Party as a whole.

Here is my new posting: Katz for Arizona House is back online.

13: Biden Wins Arizona (again); Republicans Prove Biden Got Even More Votes

People in LD4 and Arizonans as a whole: We need ONE seat to flip the Arizona House. LD4 is a PVI of D+13 and John only won by 2400 votes. This district is winnable. Let's turn Arizona blue in 2022. Let's work to get me into the AZ House. . .for LD4, for Arizona. . .and for my wife who has told me it's pretty much more important for the long term good of the State and my family.

I absolutely love my wife and it feels so much better that I have her support even though she is still 7000 miles away.

Families of missing Black men say they 'want the same manpower' from police on Petito case

Source: NBC News through AOL

David Robinson hired a private investigator and has traversed the Arizona desert with volunteers in search of his 24-year-old son, Daniel, a geologist who went missing in late June.

Rasheda Smith in Aurora, Colorado, said she didn’t hear from police for more than a week after she reported that her teen stepson, Xavion, had run away earlier this month.

Robinson, Smith and relatives of Jelani "JJ" Day, an Illinois State University graduate student who has not been seen since August, all have something in common: They're Black people who are exasperated after pleading with authorities to do more to find their loved ones.

Their frustration with law enforcement intensified as stories about the disappearance of Gabby Petito, a 22-year-old white woman, dominated the national news cycle, the result, some say, of “missing white woman syndrome.” Gwen Ifill, the legendary news anchor, coined that term in 2004 to underscore the news media’s fascination with white women who go missing.

Yeah, this would be good. I guess when Republicans and cop apologists scream "All Lives Matter," it's double speak for "All people are created equal, but some are more equal than others."

Added to this, we don't even record how many Native American women disappear.

Chris Cuomo Alleged to Have Touched Former ABC News Producer Inappropriately

Chris Cuomo Alleged to Have Touched Former ABC News Producer Inappropriately

A former top TV news producer alleged in a New York Times opinion piece that Chris Cuomo touched her inappropriately years ago when both of them worked for ABC News, a disclosure that threatens to add to public perception issues around the anchor, who leads CNN’s most-watched primetime program.

Shelley Ross, a former executive producer of ABC News’ “Good Morning America” and CBS News “Early Show,” alleged in the New York Times article that Cuomo squeezed “the cheek of my buttock” at a “going away party for an ABC News colleague” in 2005 in full view of her husband. Cuomo, said Ross, apologized for the incident in an email, a picture of which is included in her article.

“As Shelley acknowledges, our interaction was not sexual in nature. It happened 16 years ago in a public setting when she was a top executive at ABC. I apologized to her then, and I meant it,” Cuomo said in a statement provided to the Times Thursday night and included in Ross’ article. CNN declined to comment.

Cuomo has been under scrutiny in recent months while his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, was being forced out from his role due to a number of allegations of sexual harassment. Chris Cuomo took part in sessions with his brother’s staffers as they considered responses to the harassment claims. CNN never disciplined the anchor, but acknowledged in May that “it was inappropriate to engage in conversations that included members of the Governor’s staff, which Chris acknowledges. He will not participate in such conversations going forward.”

I don't know what to say about this only to say it seems a bit suspicious to me for two reasons:

1: It was 16 years ago (I know, I know). If it was that traumatizing, why wait so long?
2: There seems to be a huge push to cast anyone Trump didn't like or wanted out of office as a sex hound.

This seems like incident contact at a party that did not bother here until now?. At parties, because I am almost 6'2", I've elbowed people in the gut and chest while turning around. Should I be charged with assault 16 years after it happened?

I am trying to write my first real story song a la Harry Chapin

The name is "Kensington Beach." Could I have your input to my lyrics? I am writing the music now.

In urban Pennsylvania, there’s a place that no will see
None will bare to listen and none want to creep
Philadelphia has its eagles, but those are out of reach
Especially those of us who live on Kensington Beach

I ending up on Kensington when my luck turned into black
Lost and cold and broken, there was no looking back
I am under a parasol as the junkies start to screech
Living on the concrete on Kensington Beach

My eyes have seen the horrors only found in distant lands
As I lay under the trains on a beach with no sand
Those that pass sneer their lips, the others don’t want to see
If it weren’t for the grace of God, you could also be me

Unless you need to be here, you will never come
Temptation of the market has landed a home for a sum
A prick and then you watch people fold themselves in half
It’s a release that need to escape the pain at hand

Summer time is brutal when you’re lost out on the streets
I’ve watched too many fall and die to escape summer heat
But winter time is wicked
when the cruel wind brings the snow
Here, lost in Kensington, you’ll die before you know

I am the wasted refuse where no one seems to care
Those in charge claim they’ll come, but they don’t even dare
We are the underbelly with one foot in the sand
And no one wants to notice as we are the living dammed

Overture
Am I a human being?
What have I become?
What am doing with my life?
I never planned to be here
I just lost my way
Why am I sliding down this knife?

Watch the reckless
Watch the hopeless
Watch the forgotten
Watch the undead
I am undead
I am not dead!

Wondering where the world went as I look at my harm
Years of self abuse I have jammed into my arm
The women sell the only thing they have in this world
Some are old as the sun, most are little girls

My mind is escaping now.
My pain is erasing now.
I am no different that the people that I see
I will remain a resident of Kensington Beach
I am lost but I feel at home on Kensington Beach

Slow
A toothless man came to me and sat by my side
He said that I was different and why I’m trying to hide
I didn’t care to answer him as put on the strap to tap
A few second later, I would begin to relapse

Once I had a future, as did everybody here
Trauma and life turned for the worse, so we all disappeared
We are different kind of life that no one understands
We are evolved even more than the normal living man

NORMAL
Today I looked in a mirror and saw looking at me
A shell of the person that I knew I used to be
I didn’t recognize myself even though I tried to see
I’m a resident of The Beach, but I needed to flee

I went down an alley sat down and began to cry
This wasn’t what I would make of my life and then wanted to die
But everything in the past is gone and won’t return
All the roads are destroyed and all the bridge burned

I am alone. I am forgotten. I am done.
I hurt myself all the time so I can’t hurt no one
I need to accept myself so I can learn to grow
Accepting what condition so at last, I will know

I am the wasted refuse where no one seems to care
Those in charge claim they’ll come, but they don’t even dare
We are the underbelly with one foot in the sand
And no one notices we are the living dammed
And no one notices we are the living dammed
And no one notices we are the living dammed

CEO on why giving all employees minimum salary of $70,000 still "works" six years later:

CEO on why giving all employees minimum salary of $70,000 still "works" six years later: "Our turnover rate was cut in half"

September 16, 2021 / 7:35 AM / CBS News

It was six years ago when CEO Dan Price raised the salary of everyone at his Seattle-based credit card processing company Gravity Payments to at least $70,000 a year.

Price slashed his own salary by $1 million to be able to give his employees a pay raise. He was hailed a hero by some and met with predictions of bankruptcy from his critics.

But that has not happened; instead, the company is thriving.

Imagine that. Paying employees a good wage and not slave wages where they should fall on their hands and knees and thank the "emperor" for their pittance stops turnover and makes employees happy? Treating them like humans stops turnover?

Who woulda thunk it?
