I am SICK to my stomach!

No, not Covid19.

1,000,000+ Ukrainian refugees.

1000s of dead men, women, children in the streets.

Historic architecture and artifacts torched.

An entire culture being erased right before our eyes.

After a 90 minute phone call with Putin, Emmanuel Macron fears “the worst is to come”.

This madman needs to be stopped. America must send in support. History is watching.

Staunch Republican neighbor swooning over Biden speech

At the bus stop this morning while dropping off kids. She never really talks politics because I think she can read the room and realizes most of us if not all are left of center (this is Connecticut) but she brought up Biden’s speech and said how much she liked it and how she agreed with everything he said. She went on and on. We all darted looks at each other as to say “are you hearing this right now? What is happening?”.

This exchange reminded me of something I posted yesterday here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/100216423872

Democrats need to make these midterms about policy policy policy. Explain directly to the people how Democratic policies will help their lives and put more money in their pockets while simultaneously pointing out how Republicans have no policies, solutions, or ideas. When trolls like Lauren Boebert and Marge Greene try to heckle Democrats just ask them to explain what policies they actually disagree with and what solutions they can offer. Explain policy and expose Republicans. That’s the winning ticket.

I wasn't a member of DU yet for this event so let me just say...

Thank you Joe Biden for ending the war in Afghanistan. The press and especially rightwing media painted it as “botched” but that’s because a clusterfuck was the only way that war was ever going to end anyway. It’s the reason why every president before him kicked the can down the road; it was always going to be a “botched” clusterfuck because there is no easy way to end a war of that scale. To unwind decades of entrenched warfare is a massive undertaking. Just clearing out the locker rooms is a mighty task, let alone the machinery, the paperwork, the computer rooms, etc. America basically moved in to this country on the other side of the globe for 2 decades. So thank you Joe for ripping off that band aid and doing what every president before you was afraid to do for fear of the media calling it “botched”.

Joe Biden wasn’t my first choice (he was like my 5th choice I was really pulling for Liz Warren) but he is the right person for this moment in history. What America needs right now is someone with compassion and empathy. Someone who will stand up for democracy and doesn’t spend 24/7 trying to dividing us like the MarAlago Madman did. Someone who speaks soft but carries a big stick. I hope he continues to stand up for democracy and champions policies that will help the working class.

If Democrats want to win BIG this midterm

They need to flip the script. Republicans will do anything to avoid making this election about policy because they have no policy proposals or ideas. That is why they will try to make this about lies and culture wars. Democrats need to stick to policy and facts and connect the dots to how their policies will help the people and the working class while pointing out that Republicans have NO POLICIES or proposals.

Fact: America is currently experiencing its biggest economic expansion in 40 years. When Republicans counter with inflation talk ask them what their plan is to deal with inflation, hint: they don’t have one. Biden does have a plan to deal with it which you will hear tonight. Explain to the American people why this inflation is even occurring (demand outpacing supply). Ask the people why they would vote for a party that has no solutions.

Bring up the infrastructure bill and explain how historic some of upgrades will be and how Democrats made it happen and how it will greatly benefit the people and our nation in the 21st century. And here’s where Democrats should go especially hard and hammer this home: The Build Back Better Bill.

EXPLAIN EXPLAIN EXPLAIN
Not only explain all the great policy proposals in this bill but hold Republicans feet to the fire and FORCE them to explain why they are against these policies which would greatly benefit the working class. Go down each policy one by one and make them squirm.

Ask them why they’re against:

The most transformative investment in children and caregiving in generations.

The largest effort to combat climate change in American history.

The biggest expansion of affordable health care in a decade.

The most significant effort to bring down costs and strengthen the middle class in generations.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/build-back-better/

Democrats should go through every one of these policy proposals and not only show how these will benefit the people but expose Republicans for being against every one of them without ever even proposing an alternative. No solutions for climate change. No solutions for child care. No solutions for healthcare. No solutions for student loans. No solutions for putting more money in the peoples pockets. Just a political party who will sit on the sidelines and collect a taxpayer funded paycheck. It may not make Republicans vote Democratic but it may make Republicans think twice about voting for Republicans at all.

Freeze all their foreign assets and reserves...

And use it to rebuild Ukraine. Russia has hundreds of billions stashed in banks and assets around the world.

The only type of military intervention I support

Is military intervention to restore peace, sovereignty, and protect democracy. I was against military intervention in the Middle East because even though I do believe something needs to be done to disrupt global terrorism operations, it seemed like our mission there was going astray and far beyond that. We were a bottomless money pit trying to occupy foreign land, grab resources, and impose our culture and government instead of just focusing on disrupting terrorist networks and having a clear exit plan.

But I believe the time has now come for America to step up and aid in defeating Adolf Putin and once again defeating fascism. History is watching. It is time to reaffirm to all these dictators, thugs, and despots that the future of our planet is pro democracy and rule of law and sovereignty and not war, genocide, autocracy. The Allies are more united now than ever before. I believe we must hit the bully and reaffirm our superpower status. This isn’t just about Ukraine, this is about civilization and democracy. This is what Putin is really at war with.

Russia is about to start its 2nd wave and no amount of memes is going to be able to stop them from the horror they are going to inflict on Ukraine. I’m not saying America needs to start all out ground war but America and our allies need to send in drones, take out tanks, provide intel and firepower, and turn the tide.

Pray for Europe. History is watching.
