TCU is taking it to Oklahoma

41-17, the Oklahoma secondary is committing dumb pass interference penalties and leaving men wide open.

I hope Dillon Gabriel’s okay, though.

These people have no shame

‘The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.’

Part of me is embarrassed for him, but he’s a MAGAt, so that cancels that out.

Judge Watch

I’m watching MLB Tonight as it’s a lot of Judge coverage.

Say what you will about them, I remember where and when I was when I saw 62 for McGwire, 71 for Bonds and 756 for Bonds.

I’ve got a job I’m busy with and this is the first night in many days I have to myself, so I’m hoping to see 61 tonight.

Be an Aaron Judge, not a Judge Cannon. Let’s go.

What's in the water in West Virginia?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/i-d-burn-the-building-republican-lawmaker-boasts-he-d-let-kids-burn-to-death-if-he-could-only-save-some/ar-AA11Swd3?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=1f8482d6eb3749c990a5b085855d8f4c

We knew already that West Virginians weren't too bright for their overwhelming support of you know who, as well as being very low educated, but get a load of this gem.

----Snip

A West Virginia Republican state lawmaker angry the anti-choice lobby in his state is supporting legislation that includes exceptions for rape and incest bragged that he is voting against the bill because it is not a complete and total ban on abortion.

News outlets call it a “strict,” and “near-total abortion ban.”

“This bill will pass,” Republican state Senator Eric Tarr lamented on the floor of the West Virginia Senate this week. “It’ll save lives but it does it at the sacrifice of others.”

“I’ve heard arguments, if you go out in a burning building and you can save almost all the children but not all of them would you do it?” Tarr, the chair of the West Virginia Senate Finance Committee said, using a gruesome argument.

“I’d burn the building,” Tarr, with no remorse or care, bragged.

Americans won't actually fall for this 15-week ban, will they?

I've heard from their side of the aisle this should be left to the states to decide (which the states shouldn't be deciding to begin with), then state legislatures are refusing to empower their own citizens after Kansas and Democrats were winning elections with midterms less than two months away.

At the start of the year, Republicans were going to kill us in November. Then Dobbs happened, and now there's pushback on what would have otherwise been a cakewalk for their side.

So now, they're trying to save face. They're trying implement a 15-week ban (what about the rights of the states who have beyond 15 weeks?) I admit, this is better than an outright abortion ban many states have enacted, but this is more of a political move to seem reasonable. Not many are going to run on openly endorsing Dobbs in what is a Pro-Roe year.

You watch, you just watch. Republicans take Congress in November, and especially if they control all three come January 20, 2025, they'll withdraw 15 weeks and enact a total federal ban on abortion, and if we're lucky, they'll include exceptions.

Republicans can call this whatever they'd like. I for one call it an IQ test for voters.

I'm not sure I agree with what the Broncos did

Only twice has a 64-yard field goal or longer ever been made, once in that Denver altitude, the other by someone who looks to be a rare place kicker headed for Canton.

The Broncos, rather than go for it on fourth and five with two timeouts and not much time left, opt for a 64-yard field goal, which was admittedly close, but every game counts, especially in a league like the NFL.

That’s not a good debut for Nathaniel Hackett.

I'm not sure what aged worse

Thankfully, there hasn’t been a nuclear war, yet. Hopefully, that never will be one.

I will say though, a lot of ugly has reared its head in the last 21 years both in America and abroad. Here’s one of the many people who gave orchestrated ugly.

What an exhilarating game at Soldier Field

Calling the first-half pathetic would’ve been generous.

And yet, somehow, this team actually beat a team that just missed out on last year’s Super Bowl.

There were some positives and negatives this game.

Positives

- Justin knows how to use his mobility, and some big-time throws, too.

- I liked the play of some of the rookies. A tackle for a loss and fumble recovery by Jaquan Brisker, that was big, and how about fifth rounder Dominique Robinson with seven tackles and 1.5 sacks?

- The discipline. Three penalties for 24 yards? I’ll take that every day.

Negatives

- The offensive line looked rather underwhelming, especially early on. It was hard to get anything going inside.

- The secondary can still be spotty in spite of Eddie Jackson’s pick. They got beat pretty good about 3-4 times. It looks like Kyler Gordon can tackle, but can he cover?

- Cairo Santos missing not one, but two extra points vindicates the unsportsmanlike penalty when Gill had the towel earlier because there’s no saying he would’ve made it given the misses.

There’s lots to improve upon, but this feels so good. Victory Monday will be oh so sweet.

Bear Down, baby.

Where I was, and how did we get here?

Well, I was in fourth grade on this day 21 years ago, and just remember the Broncos beating the Giants on Monday Night Football the night before and whatever happened on Monday Night RAW, don’t even remember.

I didn’t quite understand the magnitude of everything I fully got picked up and got home from school that day. I remember it being mentioned in class. I knew something bad had happened, like ‘Oh, gee. That’s really unfortunate/too bad.’

I knew it was bad. I didn’t know it was that bad, still can remember waiting for Bush’s speech and news fragments before going to bed that night.

How, though, did we go from being all united on this day 21 years ago to flying Confederate battle flags, flying Nazi flags, subtle (and overt) racism, a party that was in power on that fateful date now devolving into being committed to taking people’s rights away and making cruelty one of their policies? How did we go from flying the American flag and championing what it stands for to having a party championing stealing highly sensitive documents and wanting to impose theocracy on us all, and attacking those different than them?

Just two days ago when driving to the high football game I was covering, I saw a pick up truck with an American flag on one side and the Stars and Bars on the other. This tells me one of two things. That person was either a Civil War buff, or has a real cognitive dissonance.

As bad as that day was, things haven’t gotten better in this country. They’ve gotten worse.

Goodness, Josh Allen

https://twitter.com/buffalobillspr/status/1568067663750115329?s=21&t=LTHhawaTAgvQzC8X25iGIA

He had that rushing touchdown by managing to break the plane or the end zone after he had a deep ball to Gabe Davis. Then there was deep ball to Diggs just now.

Welcome back, football. It’s Josh Allen’s world right now.
