A great candidate can be brought down with a smear campaign, and some are more vulnerable to it than others.

That was my main objection to Hillary running for president. She was an easy target for the GOP, and a lot of people hated her right out of the gate, so would be more likely to believe the smears.

Chelsea would bear some of that handicap and be partly hobbled by it, before people even got to know her.

A decade down the road, the Clintons will have receded into the background, and people will have forgotten about all the hate and division and remember them with dim fondness.

Chelsea might stand a chance then. In fact, she might be great.
