I just watched a video which was posted elsewhere on the internet. [View all]

I would post the video, but the last time I tried to do something like that, I got chewed out by about a dozen people for "bringing that stuff here". So I'll just discuss it instead.

The video was advertised as showing United States Congressional Representative Ilhan Omar touring a school in her home district in Minnesota. I am unable to determine whether this is a valid video of that situation, or not. It is actually a very nice video, with the camera following a woman wearing a hijab, and she is interacting with hundreds of young children, mostly children of color, at this school. The video depicts a lot of joy. The children were happy to see the woman. Many presented her with drawings that they have done. There was a lot of hugging and touching and smiling. It was a very warm video. I'm assuming that it was indeed a video of representative Omar visiting a school.

Then I read the comments to this video. some abbreviated examples of these comments are as follows:

1) The puking emoji
2) Comments depicting President Obama as a Muslim
3) UNBELIEVABLE, HOW CAN THIS SHIT BE HAPPENING IN OUR COUNTRY
4) Minnesota has been taken over by Sharia Law
5) Where the hell did all these Muslims come from?
6) We have our own culture in America. If you don't like it, go back to your sand castles.
7) WE NEED TO STOP ALL IMMIGRATION IMMEDIATELY.

And on and on and on X hundreds of comments.

I saw this video and the associated comments just after I fought back sobbing tears after viewing the Rabbi with his fingers blown off at the latest Synagogue shooting addressing the press in California.

The cat has been let out of the bag.

Trump needs to go. He needs to go yesterday. I don't care about any possible "political damage" to the Democratic Party that impeachment may cause. I don't care that the Senate will not convict. The only tool we have prior to the elections is impeachment. A statement needs to be made. Not only is this not OK, it is terrifying and disastrous. My fear is that even after he is gone...he has caused so much damage to the weakest among us (Trump supporters)...he has spread so much misinformation...so many outright lies...that it may be too late to recover from what he has unleashed.

And yes, I know mindsets such as those reflected by the people making the comments on the video have existed long before Trump came around, but Trump made them quasi-acceptable. These people have permission now. They can show their faces now. There are just enough of them that they don't have to worry about flying their racist and xenophobic flags. Once that cat is let out of the bag, how do you get it back into the bag? How do you at least make it unacceptable to "civilized" people?

I've had enough of Trump, Trumpism, MAGA, both sides do it, etc.

I had enough a long time ago...
