(15,642 posts)Portland. Both were Alt-Right Rallies that others showed up to protest against, including Antifa, were being protested against by Antifa. There was some trouble at both. But I felt pretty safe. There were lots of law enforcement. Took a lot of up close pictures and some video in Denver especially.
Antifa appeared to be almost entirely very young people. I would say the majority of them appeared to be between 18 and 22 or 23. There were probably some a bit younger and a bit older. I was that age during the Vietnam days. The passion was familiar to me. I talked with a few of them. What I heard was objection to racism, bigotry,. and the corruption and corporatization of our political system and elections. Can't say that found any of this alarming or off-base. I think they are trying to be good patriots, and like many of us in the Vietnam era, sometimes get carried away with their passion.
One disclaimer: that is my impression. I haven't done a lot of research into Antifa. Entirely based on a couple of relatively short face-to-face, up close and personal interaction/experience. I could be wrong -- but for now, I think they are acting with good intents.
