I am not making excuses for Trumps behavior, but I am explaining why he will suffer no legal consequences for his behavior. The interests of the republic (including the peaceful transition of power) supersede the interests of justice (including the principle that no person is above the law). Trump will be let off the hook in exchange for his relinquishing the reigns of power. Such has been the case throughout the history of this republic (with the notable exception of the election of 1860).
