Years ago I had a coworker who repeatedly lied about me, tried to stab me in the back and insulted me every chance he got. When the company was acquired by a much bigger company, he was let go but I was kept on simply because I was the only person who know how to do my job. To say I dislike this man would be a gross understatement, but when I do encounter him now, and this has happened a few times in recent years, I shake his hand and ask after his family. I try to let bygones be bygones. He no longer has the power to affect my life in any way, so I let it go and try to be cordial with him. I think it's the right way to be.
