But Gov. Brown has caught up with Washington and California. She's laying out a methodical program for the various regions of the state. Rural, sparsely-populated areas without any reports of infections are having restrictions relaxed. More populous areas west of the Cascades are going to open up more slowly. The coast will probably continue to be quarantined, at least to visitors from east of the Coast Range. There are limited hospital and medical facilities on the coast, and containment is essential there.

What's really important now is leadership and transparency from the state government, communicating a consistent message, and adjusting to developments as they arise.
