(20,626 posts)I think I made it a point to pay more attention to politics in general than the average 8-year-old at the time. I recall bumper stickers from that election cycle that simply stated "President Nixon", which clearly pushed a message of preservation of the status quo, as things were relatively stabilized following the unrest which defined much of the late 1960s. I was too young to have any recollection of the 1968 cycle, but the "stay the course" theme seemed to dominate in '72.
