Love it/Hate it!
I started my very first political campaign doing this. We had 2 weeks to beat back the Phelps clan. We were up and organized by the seat of our pants and had outside people from a national group fly in to help us since we did not know much about doing a campaign.
By the time we were done I was volunteer staff working 15 hours a day sometimes. I ended up getting very good at phone banking and was teaching the basics soon after.
Of all the things I have done I think that may be the most difficult and often just grueling job of all but also one of the most effective. I have worked so many campaigns doing it and am calling myself retired from it for now.
I love your story. I loved those kinds of calls. I had one woman call me back because her husband took the phone from her and told me that she would vote how he told her and then told me and my ****** friends to go to hell. Since I was on my private phone she called me back and we had a nice talk. Amazing to me how many times I heard that story both phone banking and going door to door. In some areas and families women still need the privacy of that booth and the courage to think that he will not figure out she did not vote how he told her to vote.
I am always interested in stories from phone banking. What I actually remember most was trying to sleep on a sore ear. Seriously, way to go. I am sending ear comfort vibes to you. I wish I had had a set of soft earphones back then.
