40. I was thinking

about this last night. I thought maybe some of it came frome his book "Free" that he had published at the time he was underground. I couldn't find me copy ..... might have loaned it to someone, or one of my boys may have "borrowed" it in their teens ......but I will say that no one wanted that put out there except Abbie. It was like the man had a compulsive need to thumb his nose at authorities every so often.

And he might have talked about a vacation on those beaches in "Soon to be a Major Motion Picture," a later book than "Free." I never thought the plastic surgery made him look any different. It was his attitude as a quiet, highly intelligent man, more than his nose, that fooled people.

Abbie liked the islands up in the north part of the state. I have a close friend who owns one of them. If things were tense, one could easily get on the Mohawk Territory, and be in Canada, away from authorities. The funny thing is that my close friend looks a lot like Abbie, as my children point out when he visits.

All this brings up old memories. Dennis Banks stayed at Onondaga Territory back in the day. Eventually, circumstances allowed him to turn himself in. But there was always negotiations involved. I rambling here, I know, but I am still on my first cup of coffee. If I recall correctly, Abbie traveled to NYC to appear on some network show, then turned himself in. It was scripted, as much as any force on earth could script Abbie's behavior! Ha!
