I have had a theory for many years that the right is all about symbols....over substance.

E.g., the cross, v. Jesus' true teachings.

The flag, v. true patriotism.

I think it's because they are too dumb to explore, read, inquire, investigate - they can only go as far deep as the symbol. Like we used to say about W, they do not have curious minds!
