I know a lot of us are getting pretty frustrated with the segment of this country's population that is refusing to get a safe, effective, and free vaccine and thereby putting the health care system under a strain and putting themselves and others in danger. I get that. I understand where those emotions are coming from. It's absolutely infuriating to see the number of covid cases and especially the number of deaths staring to rend upward, just when we were all starting to feel things were getting so much better.
However, as a Democrat, it saddens me to see fellow Democrats give in to the urge to feel this way. Compassion for the suffering of others is part of basic human decency, imo. It's something that should ideally be freely given to all, not just to those who have ticked certain boxes that qualify them to "deserve" it. I know there are a great many people who don't see things that way. But I am just foolish and idealistic enough to hope for better from myself and from my fellow Democrats.
I am not going to tell anyone else how to feel. I realize I have no right to do that. I just think there's something to be said for striving to rise above emotions like anger and resentment rather than allowing ourselves to be consumed by them. You are all OF COURSE free to disagree as strongly as you like.
