(8,908 posts)San Diego County has plenty of RWNJ's and of course some are friends.
In the city of San Diego, it cost around $10K per student per year to educate them.
Every time a school measure or something similar appears on the ballot, I keep hearing from the RW's, "Why should I vote for this, I don't have any kids in school.", or "Why should I vote for this, my kids already graduated."
I always ask them, "Did you attend public schools?". Over 90% will say yes.
I then ask, "Who do you think paid for your education? Do you think your parents could afford $10K per child per year?"
It is time for them to pony up, if not for their kids, at least for their own education.
Everyone owes into the system.
My parents had 8 children. There is no way they would have been able to pay $80K per year.
Public school throughout for myself, included grants for college.
So yes, I understand my responsibility in exchange for what I received from the public school system.
Along with my property taxes, I donate scientific calculators every year towards students that display S.T.E.M capabilities.
Remember public school buses? Now only the students that use them pay for them.
When my daughter was going through her K-12 years, it cost $600 per semester, probably more now.
You think the lower income areas are able to afford this?
Another publicly paid & provided service that's been PROFITIZED.
