The statement is too simplistic. You would have to take into account the vaccination rate of the country and other factors, such as the age of the population, cardiovascular and diabetic rates, etc.
We know obesity increases the likelihood of hospitalization and death when infected with COVID, but it's only one of many factors that can affect overall death rates.
