(8,049 posts)who used to be very genuinely pro-USA, pro-military, pro-Iraq invasion/War on Terror seem to have melted away for the most part. What's left seem to be the Trumpy-bear die-hards, the Qanon types (always pushing the globalist/deep state/Soros conspiracy shit), and some outright English-as-a-second-language Russian trolls.
The Trump-Humpers and Qanons are not necessarily trolls, many simply love Putin because Trump and Putin are BFF's, and they're experiencing a lot of traumatic cognitive dissonance right now. These are the merely-stupids.
The professional Putinists are smart but pretty easy to spot, even among long-termers. They use the same argument tactics (whataboutisms, "some say", "I heard" ), the same constant redirection to focus on the southern border or BLM or truck convoys instead of Ukraine, the same insistence that America is a shitty weak country but Russia is mighty and a haven for Christians, and so forth. I don't think Russian/foreign internet trolls and propagandists are a recent thing on the internet, either. Probably been going on more like 15 years or so.
